Fast meals can be healthy too, and if you read down you will find some quick and easy recipes that you can make when time is short that is a much healthier option than buying a ready-meal from a supermarket or fast food outlet.

Cheesy Pasta Bake


500g/1lb pasta of your choice, cooked

220g/7oz grated mature colored cheddar cheese

8 slices cooked ham, shredded

250g/8oz button mushrooms, sliced

750g/11/2 lb jar tomato pasta sauce

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or parsley

2 slices medium white loaf, made into crumbs

  1. Place hot pasta and 125g/4 oz cheese in a lightly greasedovenproof dish, mix to combine and set aside.
  2. Cook ham in a nonstick frying pan for 3 - 4 minutes. Add mushrooms and cook for further 3 minutes. Spoon ham mixture over pasta and top with pasta sauce and basil or parsley.
  3. Combine breadcrumbs with remaining cheese and sprinkle over pasta.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes in oven at 2000C/4000F/gas mark 6.

Creamy Pea and Ham Pasta


500g/1lb spaghetti or other pasta of your choice

155g/5oz frozen peas

250g/8oz canned round ham, diced

1 cup/250ml/8 fl oz double cream

ground white pepper

grated white mild cheddar cheese

  1. Cook pasta in boiling water in a large saucepan folling packet instructions. Drain, set aside and keep warm.
  2. Boil steam or microwave peas until cooked.
  3. Place pasta, peas, ham and cream in a frying pan and heat over a medium heat, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes or until heated through.
  4. Season to taste with white pepper. Sprinkle with cheese and serve immediately.

Sardine and Lime Pizza


One purchased or prepared pizza base

2 teaspoonfuls olive oil

3 red onions, sliced

3 cloves garlic, crushed

3 tablespoons chopped mixed fresh herbs

2 x 120g/4oz cans sardines in oil, drained

1 tablespoon finely grated lime rind

1 tablespoon lime juice

ground white pepper

Oven temperature 220οC/425οF/Gas mark 7

  1. Place pizza base on a lightly greased baking tray and set aside.
  2. To make topping, heat oil in a frying pan over a low heat. Add onions and garlic and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until onions are soft. Add herbs and mix to combine.
  3. Spread onion mixture over pizza base. top with sardines, sprinkle with lime rind, lime juice and white pepper to taste.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 190οC/375οF/Gas mark 5 and bake for 15 minutes longer or until base is crisp and golden.

      Try to use raw and fresh ingredients for the healthiest meals possible. If you don't have time to prepare a meal, please do not use fast food to fulfill your hunger. Fresh and healthy meal delivery services are a much better option, will keep you healthy, and are revolutionizing the way families do dinner fast and healthy!
