Real Hot Chocolate
I think the key to "real hot chocolate" should be real chocolate, don't you think? There is a silkiness and richness that comes with using chocolate, that cannot be achieved with cocoa.
Real hot chocolate is very rich and deeply satisfying. It almost is a dessert in itself not needing an accompaniment.
It is only made with milk and chocolate, and I like to top it with a dollop of whipped cream. Since it is so rich, I would recommend serving it in smaller cups as opposed to the big mugs. This recipe should make 2-3 servings.
- 1 cup milk
- 2 oz. chocolate
- dash of cayenne pepper, optional
- Heat the milk and the chocolate over medium heat until almost melted. There will be specks of chocolate that can't be dissolved by stirring.
- Pour it into a tall container and use an immersion blender to dissolve the chocolate completely until very smooth and a little foamy. Serve right away.
