Recipe For Humba

Updated on February 16, 2018

What is Humba?

The dish is very similar to pork adobo. Humba or Visayan Pork Stew is an appetizing dish with pork meat, soy sauce, salt, and brown sugar as its main ingredient. On a television show, it was explained why it was called humba. Humba is formed after combining the two words, humot and baboy. Humot is a Visayan term for “aromatic” and baboy in literal term means “pig”. It is indeed true that this dish is aromatic and appetizing that you’ll end up consuming more cups of rice.

Humba has been present on the table of Filipinos during ordinary days or even on fiesta. There are a handful of Humba Recipes that existed in recipe books and on the internet. A bottle of Sprite (a soft drink, bottled by Coca-Cola Company) is even included as one of the key ingredients of this delectable dish. My recipe is very simple and it doesn’t need much ingredients. Adding a bottle of Sprite is quite strange, but I have to admit, Sprite really gives a different, but a good outcome in cooking humba.

Warning!

If you have a high blood pressure, my advice is not to give in to this gooey dish as it has too much oil and fat. Putting health on top of everything is far more important than having a full belly and satisfaction of your craving. A healthier version of this delectable means reduction of salt, sugar, oil, seasoning mix and not including the bottle of sprite and the meat fat.

  2. Season with salt, brown sugar, maggi magic sarap and soy sauce.

The recipe above is for humba special. I named it humba special because there are a relatively many ingredients than this other recipe. Despite of the absence of the ingredients, it still tastes good.
