Apple Upside Down Cake
I have made this apple recipe many times. Not only is it very easy, the cake is simply scrumptious. If you serve this right out of the oven topped with cream, it then becomes an apple pan dowdy. When served on a cake dish, let it cool and serve after your meal while it is still slightly warm.
- 3 cups sliced apples
- 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon each of ground cinnamon and nutmeg
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup milk
Mixing and Baking
Put apples in 13x9 sheet pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar and spices. Bake at 375° for 30 minutes or until apples are soft.
Cream butter and gradually add granulated sugar. Beat until fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, beating until smooth.
Spread over cooked apples.
Bake for 30 minutes
Let cake cool for about 15 minutes to set cake. Loosen sides of cake pan with a knife. While the cake is still warm place your cake dish over the cake and turn over to drop cake onto dish.
