Mushroom Steak Sauce

I really like a good steak that has been grilled or made in the broiler. I prefer mine medium rare, but so many people have to have everything well done.

So you grilled a nice juicy steak and you want something tantalizing to put over it. You can make a gravy to go with the mashed potatoes but there is nothing better than a good mushroom sauce to accentuate the wonderful taste of a freshly grilled steak.

Basic Recipe

You will need:

  • 1/2 pound of sliced mushrooms
  • 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 1-1/4 cups of clear liquid (cold water or water off your cooked vegetables)
  • 2 bouillon cubes
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • salt is optional

Brown the mushrooms in your margarine. Stir in the flour and let brown slightly. Add your water and boullion cubes. Cook until slightly thickened.

You can achieve a different taste by adding a drop or two of Worcestershire sauce into your recipe.

Chicken Marsala

I'm not fond of chicken dishes but Chicken Marsala has a whole different taste that I simply love. To make Chicken Marsala gravy you will need:

You will need:

  • 1/2 pound of sliced mushrooms
  • 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 1-1/4 cups of chicken Broth
  • Marsala Wine
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • salt is optional

Brown the mushrooms in your margarine. Stir in the flour and let brown slightly. Add your chicken broth and wine. Cook until slightly thickened. Pour your sauce over skinless chicken breast during the last 10 minutes to let the mushroom sauce marinate into the chicken pieces.
