Our Experience

The Red Crab Seafood restaurant, in Garland, Texas, carries a wide range of fresh seafood and the prices are a steal! Located in a strip mall, off of Broadway, the Red Crab restaurant has a 70's meat market atmosphere which is so perfect for families! The restaurant's seating is occupied with a random collection of booths, and tables can be found in the back. When you arrive, there is a "Please seat yourself" sign located in the entrance. Large seafood menus are situated in the center of the seafood counter. Menus are also made available at your table.

The friendly owner welcomed us and came to our table to take our order. We chose lobster tails, snow crab legs, blue crab, raw oysters, corn on the cob, cole slaw, and bottled sodas. With our meal, we received condiments of lemon wedges, melted garlic butter, horseradish, and cocktail sauce. Also, available on the table was hot sauce, ketchup, and other condiments. We also received the crab opener and seafood fork. Our order was delivered to our table fast. The seafood was all fresh, seasoned well, and very tasty. The dry rub on the snow crab legs was delicious. Proportions were extremely large for the price. In fact, the raw oysters on the half shell were especially big!

During our meal, the owner told us stories about his heritage from Maryland and a little about the crabs that we were eating. We loved that the atmosphere was kid friendly. We had the place all to ourselves. Our two year old, Julius, gobbled up every piece of crab that we handed him. He thoroughly enjoyed the food and it was a fun experience for him. When our meal was nearly finished, to our delight, the owner brought us each a complimentary hot green tea and hand towels. We are looking forward to many more family meals at the Red Crab Seafood restaurant in Garland, Texas.

Our honest opinion...

Besides the attentive staff and kid friendly atmosphere, the food was a bargain for the money, seafood was absolutely fresh, proportions were extremely large, all the food was tasty, the crabs were seasoned well, and the food arrived to our table quickly.

Our personal preference... we weren't too keen on the blue crabs but just because we preferred the snow crabs which had a lot more meat. I've also read some bad reviews online from other sites regarding the crab sticks, but we didn't try those on this visit.

How to crack open snow crab legs:

The restaurant should provide you with a tool to open your snow crab legs. One of those tools will look like a metal nutcracker, a crab cracker, which you squeeze to break the shell. Then, there is the tiny fork, or possibly a poker with two prongs, which you use to scrape the meat out of the shell.

1) Hold the crab cracker with your dominant hand. I am right handed. So I hold it in my right hand. The crab leg should be held with your other hand.

2) Next, you want to fit the crab leg into your crab cracker and squeeze the handle to open the crab.

3) Use the tiny fork, or two pronged poker, to pull the meat from the crab leg. & Enjoy! ;-)

Sometimes you can bend the crab in half, at the center, or possibly at a joint and then remove the meat. When this does not work out, the crab cracker and tiny fork come in handy.

It's definitely not fancy by any means but if you're looking for cheap seafood, we like it. ;-)

This looks like a great place to get seafood and your son certainly seems to be enjoying the food. We lived in Garland before moving out to the country and I know this area of town. Thanks for the review. We're always looking for a good restaurant.
