Savory Fruit Pies Made From Scratch

Updated on January 31, 2013

Savory Blueberry Pie

A Savory Fruit Pie

I just made one from scratch tonight. A savory fruit pie made from fresh blueberries and made with a crumb crust. I love the double crusted or lace crusted pies too but didn't have enough to make two crusts so I went with the crumb crust. The photos show blueberry pies and looking at them makes me want to bite right in but there are so many kinds of fruit pies that make a savory dessert. When I was a child my favorite was most definitely peach pie. My grandmother would make it when we would visit her on Sunday's and it didn't take long for that savory fruit pie to become top on my list.

Other favorites include red raspberry pie, apple and cherry.

One that is a little different and not readily available that I've tried just a few times is concord grape pie. A little similar to blueberry but has the strong grape taste.

Ways To Make Savory Fruit Pies From Scratch

There are several ways to make a savory fruit pie but two of the most popular and most common are double crusted pies and crumb crust pies. Some people think the fruit part of the pie is the absolute best, others love the crust.

Fruit Pies Will Hit The Spot

There are fruit pies that taste good with other kinds of crust too. Graham cracker crust is popular and when in a hurry, a savory fruit pie can be made with a graham cracker crust, fruit as the filling and some whipped cream on top.

A small shop just opened in our small town. It's a little storefront that just sells fruit pies. Imagine that. It took a while but once the word got around, the place began getting busier and busier as this business owner knew the secret of making mouthwatering savory fruit pies.

So whether a business, a holiday, a special dinner or just because, fruit pies will hit the spot.

malonge, That is so brilliant of that small storefront to specialize in fruit pies! Your community is lucky to have that business. I'd be there every day (at least in spirit) if it were in my town.

All fruit pies are delectable for me, but I have a special fondness for cherry and for cranberry apple pie. And sweet potato and pumpkin and mince. Well, as I said, they're all delicious.

I have never had much luck baking pies. But these look so good I may have to try again. Going to pin this in my delicious recipe section.
