Pixie diner in Mt. Pleasant MI.

A picture says a thousand words, right? So lets begin this week's feature restaurant review of Mt. Pleasant's "Pixie" diner with a few snapshots of our excellent dining experience.

The cheese ACTUALLY looks like this! I took this shot about 3-5 minutes after the pizza arrived and it still presented beautifully.

The Taste

I have to begin with an apology to my wife for only featuring pics of her actually eating. I took 3 shots of her enjoying this terrific pizza then dug in as well. The great thing about this pizza was that the crust was done exactly the way Sondra and I like it- very lightly browned, and semi-soft. I'm sure you could order it crispier according to your preference, but for us it was absolutely perfect! We had an order of fries as well, but they didn't last long :) Taste Rating: 5 out of 5

The Atmosphere

This joint has pizazz! From the front of the pink caddy jutting streetward from the side of the building to the cut outs of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Elvis, the atmosphere was excellent. There's so much to see! We loved all the throw back memorabilia, the old malt mixer, juke box, varsity/letter jackets from the era, etc. A point of interest for me was that you really felt like you were stepping back in time. The space doesn't have an old, musty-dusty ambience-not at all. From the moment you walk in you feel as if you've just gotten out of Doc Brown's Delorean time machine and journeyed into that golden age of sock hops and submarine races.

Another bonus as far as atmosphere is concerned was the condition of the bathrooms. They were immaculate. The restrooms were so clean that they looked as though we were the first users of the day even though we arrived in the chill of twilight.

The life size Elvis statue would've attracted my oldest brother (a die hard Elvis fan) for a photo op, while the celebrity cut outs provide time for chuckles and impressions.

50's music played throughout, another feature I appreciated because the music was consistent with the motif. A classy joint should play classy music, a 50's joint should play 50's music.

The Menu

We found the menu to be very agreeable with our pocket book. Sondra and I ate a delicious, filling meal for just $17.45 including drinks. As you can see from the menu below there is a wide variety of entree's and appetizers to choose from. There's even an eating contest that can earn you a permanent plaque on the wall.

The "kids" meal section takes the hassle out of piecing together meals for kids or ordering full/adult portions for them. Prices are smaller for these meals, just like the patrons :)

Menu Rating: 5 out of 5

The menu is diverse yet traditional and very reasonable. See phone # and location.

The Service

Upon entering we were met at the ordering counter by two smiling, clean cut, young people that only added to the retro sense of courteous, cheerful young people so prevalent in the 1950's. There was also an "out of school" adult manager present who really set the standard for good customer service/conduct. I think it is very wise to have a personality like that on the premises to keep the routines efficient and professional.

From the time we ordered our wait time was less than 10 minutes. Our server was friendly and helpful, answering all our questions about the restaurant. Food can be good, atmosphere can be great, prices can also be a big factor in drawing customers, but it is service that keeps them coming back. We will certainly be coming back for more visits to the Pixie diner in Mt. Pleasant MI for all the reasons listed, but the service, oooohhhh that service! Stop in for a visit the next time you're in town or just make a special trip to come in and dine at this terrific diner. You'll be glad you did. See the map below for directions.
