Shirley Temple Childhood Goodness!!

Cast your vote for Grown Up Shirley Temple

I am not sure about everyone else, but I am a huge fan of these Shirley Temples and I always will be. When I was a youngin, my grandma would always make these for me because, well clearly, I couldn't drink when I was 5. However, it started to be a new tradition that every time I would go to my grandmas she would make me one. Whenever we would have a family gathering, she made me one. AND on my birthdays or sleepovers at the grandparents, you're right, I got one! I was a happy camper when my grandma would whip out that jar of cherries and I knew right then and there what she was getting ready to do. However, the myth of you get spoiled at grandmas was false because she cut me off at 3 haha

Anyways, I was online and found an old fashioned recipe of the Shirley Temple where it is nothing more than ginger ale, a splash of cherry juice and a cherry. Now there is so much more, and since I am older I get to add a little grenadine (if you get the alcoholic content) to my splash my Shirley deliciousness!

Prep time: 2 min
Ready in: 2 min
Yields: Serves 1

  • 1/2 Cup orange juice
  • 1/2 Cup gingerale
  • 1/2 Cup lime soda
  • 2 Tablespoons grenadine
  • Sliced lime
  • 1 maraschino cherry (with stem)

  1. Fill a large glass, or mason jar if you use them, half way full with ice cubes.
  2. Layer the drink! Start with Orange Juice, Gingerale, Lime Soda and finish with Grenadine.
  3. Add 2 slices of lime and a cherry (with stem) to the beverage
  4. Do not stir. Serve. Then your guest can stir before drinking. This keeps the effect in the glass. Enjoy!

These are so good, not only doing the summer time or family events, but all year round. Sometimes you just get thirsty for something different and this will definitely hit the spot!

This a huge hit, mostly with kids, because it's something different than just colored/flavored water or a soda. It's easy to make and delicious for any age group! I hope you Enjoy!
