Updated on October 3, 2012

Southern Fried Cabbage

My brother-in-law introduced this recipe to us a couple years ago at a family function, and we have enjoyed it ever since.

Who knew cabbage could taste so good?

Ingredients for Fried Cabbage

  • 1 Large Head of Cabbage, Chopped
  • 1 Large Sweet Onion, Chopped
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
  • For Variation Green and Red Bell Peppers, Chopped

How to Prepare

  1. Fry the bacon until nice and crisp.
  2. Use bacon drippings to fry the chopped cabbage and onion in a frying pan.
  3. For a healthier version omit the bacon for olive oil.
  4. Cook cabbage until tender.
  5. For variation, add green and red peppers.

We hope this fried cabbage recipe becomes one of your favorites too. There will be more recipes coming soon from the Hazelwood Family Kitchen.

Everything tastes better with bacon! This looks delicious, and a great way to get my family to eat some cabbage. The cookbooks look helpful too.

Yum. I made some fried cabbage recently. We don't use bacon though because we are vegetarian. But I love and miss me some bacon. sigh

You are so welcome.:) My wife and I were discussing our earliest memories last night about Thanksgiving and food in general. It is amazing me how food in general can bring back the fondest of memories.

Simple and yet very tasty ... definitely my kind of meal, but maybe not good to have this one everyday!

My sister makes something like this all the time. She makes it from her grease can. I like your version better. I love cabbage and bacon. Voted Up.
