Slow Cooker Meal Ideas: Three Main Dish Recipes Using Frozen Meatballs

Updated on April 18, 2011

Are you looking for more ways to use your slow cooker to prepare main dishes? If you want to make sure that you are always prepared to put together a tasty slow cooker main course without much effort, keep a bag or two of frozen meatballs in the freezer.

Paired with a tasty sauce recipe, frozen meatballs are a great option for simple slow cooker meals. There are several brands of frozen available in most supermarkets and warehouse club stores. My favorites are Rosina and Farm Rich, but these are certainly not the only options.

Choose your favorite kind and keep a few packages on hand. You’ll always have the “makings” of a simple slow cooker meal on hand if you do.

3 Main Dish Slow Cooker Meatball Recipes

Meatballs and Marinara Sauce

Whether you want to enjoy spaghetti and meatballs or tasty meatball sub sandwiches for dinner, you can’t go wrong with meatballs and marinara sauce. Place the ingredients for your favorite homemade marinara sauce recipe in your slow cooker, or empty a few cans of spaghetti sauce embellished with your favorite spices into the appliance. Add frozen meatballs and put the lid in place. Cook on low for 4 – 6 hours or on high for 2 – 3 hours.

Meatballs and Brown Gravy

Make your favorite brown gravy recipe on the stovetop and transfer to slow cooker. Alternately, place the contents of two jars or cans of prepared beef gravy into your slow cooker. Add frozen meatballs. Cover and cook on low for 4 – 6 hours or on high for 2 – 4 hours. Serve as a side dish with mashed potatoes or white or brown rice or spoon onto slices of fresh French bread to make tasty meatballs sub sandwiches.

Swedish Meatballs

Make your favorite brown gravy recipe on the stovetop and pour into your slow cooker. If you’d prefer to start with prepared gravy, simply open two cans or jars your favorite brand of gravy and pour into your slow cooker. Add one tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and two cans of sliced mushrooms (drained). Add frozen meatballs. Put the lid in place. Cook on low for 4 – 6 hours or on high for 2 – 4 hours. Stir eight ounces of regular or reduced fat sour cream into the mixture immediately before serving. Serve over cooked egg noodles or another variety of pasta.
