Building a Star Wars Kitchen - From Toasters to Cookie Cutters
Two of the things I love most in this world are Star Wars and kitchen accessories, so you can bet your blaster that I have a dream of putting together an entirely Star Wars-themed kitchen someday.
In a fit of aspirational daydreaming, I researched all of the various Star Wars-branded kitchen accessories that are currently available on the market. As it happens, there is a TON of stuff to choose from.
Here's a collection of everything one might need to create the perfect Star Wars kitchen - from Darth Vader toasters to adorable Star Wars cookie cutters. Someday, I'll have ALL this stuff. Until then... I'll just have to stare at these products and drool uncontrollably.
Star Wars Appliances
I used to think Hello Kitty toasters were the epitome of cool (and that's coming from a girl who has special pirate brands for toast and sandwiches), but that was before I discovered that there's a Darth Vader toaster. So much cooler! And hey... even if it regularly burns toast, it's more fun on the dark side, innit?
Of course, toasters aren't the only Star Wars appliances out there. One can also have a Star Wars popcorn machine, should one want to have truly legit Star Wars movie nights. But... I would only recommend something this bulky and expensive for a major party host and popcorn lover.
Star Wars Food Containers
Cookie jars are the easiest kitchen containers to make based on TV shows (I should know. One of the best kitchen storage products from Doctor Who is a TARDIS cookie jar). This is why it's perfectly sensible that Darth Vader cookie jars should be on the market! They'll go nicely with Darth Vader toasters.
If you're not a huge fan of the Empire, you could always go with a lunch box- there seem to be more neutral and Rebel-affiliated lunch containers on the market to cater to those who haven't yet succumbed to the dark side of the Force.
At first I was pretty bummed to see that some of the coolest Star Wars food containers are kids' lunch boxes, but then I realized just how versatile these tins are. One could keep tools, sundries, napkin rings, or even small explosives in these little suckers! Hurrah for functional-but-awesome containers.
Star Wars Baking & Cooking Goods
There are far more Star Wars accessories for baking than there are appliances and storage containers.
Star Wars cupcake accessories are especially popular these days - probably because cupcakes are so popular themselves. Those who really like baking confectionary treats can get light sabre cupcake picks and cupcake stencils, for example, though I am personally partial to the use of fondant in decorating cupcakes... fondant is the best material for making proper stormtrooper creations, after all!
There are also a decent number of molds and cutters made in Star Wars shapes- especially for pancakes and cookies! I'm personally most interested in the pancake molds, especially since I think they could also be used with fried eggs!
These can double as stencils for dusting cinnamon on lattes or hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. Oh man, how cool would that be.
Star Wars Aprons
Lately, I've had my eye on Star Wars aprons. They're pretty sweet. The one pictured to the left was from a 2010 Williams Sonoma run- I don't know if they're still for sale, but if they are, you should snatch one while you can!
There are, of course, other options, such as the humorous one below. May the forks be with you indeed!
Star Wars Utensils
The first Star Wars kitchen accessory I ever purchased was a pair of light sabre chopsticks for myself (and another pair for my college roommate).
Though these chopsticks (tragically) don't light up, they're still pretty incredible. I use mine every night and they have, even after a year's worth of use, never failed to cheer me up even on the most dismal of evenings. In other words, I highly recommend them.
Star Wars Mugs & Shotglasses
I don't care if you're looking to get caffeinated or drunk- you should be doing it the Star Wars way.
There are a decent number of Star Wars mugs and cups out there- there's really no need to expound on those, since fan-related drink conveying devices are ubiquitous. That said, I'm still pretty excited about Star Wars shot glasses- especially the one to the left. I don't drink, but if I did, it'd be out of that thing.
Star Wars Cookbooks
Fact: Star Wars is awesome. Additional fact: cookbooks are awesome. Obvious subsequent fact: Star Wars cookbooks are awesome2.
I came across Wookie Cookies in a bookstore right after it came out and blasted through the entire thing in a couple of minutes- THERE ARE SO MANY FUN RECIPES!!! A Star Wars-themed kitchen is not complete without Star Wars food. A Star Wars cookbook will give one some great ideas to get started.
One can dream!
While I can't exactly afford to have a Star Wars themed kitchen at this point, I can still dream about meeting a nice stormtrooper someday and putting EVERYTHING IN THIS GUIDE on my registry.
What are your personal kitchen dreams? If you could have a themed kitchen, what would the theme be? Tell me about it in the comments below- I love chatting about kitchens!
