Cook Time

Prep time: 1 hour 15 min
Cook time: 8 min
Ready in: 1 hour 23 min
Yields: 24-36 cookies (depending on cutters used)

Ingredients for Sugar Cookies

  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg (beaten)
  • 2 tblsp Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder

Sugar Cookies - Method

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350. Lightly grease two to three cookie sheets or cover with parchment paper. Cream together butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl or food processor. Add egg, milk and vanilla and mix well.
  2. Add flour and baking powder and stir until ingredients are well combined. Chill for 1 hour. If you are making the dough in advance wrap in cling film/plastic wrap and place in refrigerator until ready to use - remove and bring to just under room temperature before rolling.
  3. Lightly flour a wooden board and rolling pin and roll out the dough to 1/4" thickness and cut into desired shapes and place on baking sheets. Allow room for expansion so make sure the sheet is not too crowded. Bake plain or with coloured sugars for 6-8 minutes.

I love the look of these and your timing is perfect in that I was just looking for a new recipe to try. I know you also do a lot of gluten free recipes as well. Have you had much luck making these with gluten free flours?

Hello Thundermama, I was going to try with Red Mills all purpose gluten free flour but I haven't yet.

I hope to get to that for some Christmas baking and will post when I do.

      Thanks for stopping by.
