Bengali Dessert Recipe - Sweet Rice With Coconut Milk (Narkel Dudher Payesh)

This is a most loving dessert for Bengalies. It is also familiar in Southern part of India with a little variation. You can try it now!

Ingredients  Serve for 2 -4

  1. Coconut           1no
  2. Milk                   ½ ltr.
  3. Sugar               100 gm
  4. Basmati rice        50 gm
  5. Cashew nut        25 gm
  6. Almond               10 gm
  7. Cinnamon           1pc
  8. Cardamom          5 no
  9. Bay leaf              2 no

Method

  1. Grate the coconut.
  2. Add a little hot water to it.
  3. Grind and press the mixture through a coarse cloth to extract thick milk. Keep it aside.
  4. Soak rice for 30 minutes and then drain the water.
  5. Take the milk in a pan and add the rice.
  6. Cook on low flame till the milk thickens and the rice is done.
  7. Add sugar, cashew nut, cardamom, cinnamon and bay leaf.
  8. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Add coconut milk and cook for another 5 minutes.
  10. Garnish with cashew nut and almond.
  11. Serve cool as dessert.

      Oh we eat sweet rice back home but I never knew how to make it.. just let the moms and aunts do that! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Nice hub.. you make it sound so simple!
