Every now and then I find myself rifling through my pantry in a fury trying to find something sweet to eat. I don't keep ice cream in my house because I do not have an off switch. I don't keep Oreo cookies in my house because my husband does not have an off switch. So, what can I eat? I am tired of just plain fruits and the usual healthy eating sweet snacks. If I have one more tiny, packaged Weight Watchers snack, I think I may just flip!

And it seems that I am not alone! Here are a few sweet recipes that have been shared with me from fellow dieters that cannot do without our sweet fixes. And I promise, unless I have tried it and REALLY love it, you will not find the recipe in any of my hubs. Check them out and let me know what you think in the Comments section below.

Chocolate/Peanut Butter Ice Cream (that doesn't taste like bananas!)

Ok, so, no, it is not exactly ice cream, but it does taste delicious and comes out looking a little something like dippin' dots.

Here is what you will need:

  • One banana, frozen then sliced
  • 1 tsp. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 tsp. PB2 (powdered peanut butter)

What you do:

As your bananas ripen, often they get thrown in the trash because they are too bruised or mushy. Take these almost discarded bananas, peel them, wrap in cellophane and freeze them. Once frozen, slice them and add the other ingredients in a mixer then blend. You now have a tasty frozen treat that took less than 5 minutes to prepare!!

***TIP- any type of fruit will work. Try some strawberries and mangos for a sorbet-like treat!

Fruit, Yogurt and Granola

Yes, this does sound a little boring, but man is it tasty. The granola gives it a little crunch, the fruit the sweetness, and the yogurt balances it all out.

Here is what you will need:

  • 1/2 c. low fat yogurt
  • Strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, melons, etc.
  • Cooked granola

What you do:

Easy- mix, eat and enjoy. You will be surprised at how easily you will fill up and this is surprisingly low calorie!

Ice Tray Delights!!!

So, it may not sound that impressive, but when you need something to make you happy while still being healthy, here are a few things that you can freeze in ice trays to pop in your mouth from time to time as a treat.

Orange juice + anything!

I like to freeze orange juice and put little slices of fruit into the trays. Some of the obvious best are mandarin oranges (you can buy a can, drain and wash to get the excess sugar off of them), little orange slices, sliced strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc.

Mini smoothies!

You may not always want a whole smoothie and don't you always have a little extra in the blender when you make a fruit smoothie anyway? I know I do. Take your favorites fruits, ice, milk and a little sweetener and blend. Fill an ice tray with a little bit of smoothie, then drink the rest for breakfast or snack!

      carol7777 thanks for the comment!! I think you just rattled off a list of some of my favorites... I just added a new one to the end- freeze little bits of what you like in ice trays... I guess technically you can put little bits of pecan pie in some too hahahahaha

      Some good ideas for those who insatiable sweet tooths. I have a few things that there is no off switch for...Coffee ice cream, carrot cake, pecan pie, fudge...Thanks for sharing these hopeful ideas for those who cannot resist sugar.
