Taste Something New & Amazing – Serbian Cuisine!
Serbia is a colorful country in many aspects. But particularly in foods, Serbia is one of the most diversely colorful countries in Europe. Greatly influenced by the original Yugoslavian cuisine, Serbian cuisine has a dash of many other countries like the Balkans, Greece, Turkey, Austria and Hungary. No wonder, Serbian dishes are countless. Here are just three of them, which are easy to make, delicious and healthy.
These are extremely delicious steaks and due to their strange shape, are called ‘Maidens’ Dreams’ too. If you are on a carb-free diet, these are ideal for you, because they have very little carbohydrates and plenty of lean meat and oil.
You will need:
- ½ kg boneless pork steaks
- 150 grams cream cheese
- 2 eggs
- Oil for frying
- Salt to taste.
- First mash the pork steaks till they become thin and tender.
- Apply a bit of cream cheese on each of them.
- Wrap each steak to form a roll and secure them with toothpicks.
- Beat the eggs. Add salt to the flour and beaten egg.
- Now coat these rolls with flour and dip into the beaten egg and then roll into the breadcrumbs
- Fry them in hot oil till they become golden.
- Note: In original Serbian dish, in place of cream cheese, a Serbian dairy product called kajmak is used, which you can use if you can get it to bring more originality to the dish.
Delicious and at the same time nutritious, spinach patties are everyone’s favorite. This is also an extremely easy recipe. The patties can easily replace the meat patties for vegetarians if the egg is excluded.
You will need:
½ kg spinach
300 grams potatoes
50 grams hard cheese (grated)
2 cloves of garlic (mashed)
100 grams flour
50 grams of breadcrumbs
Salt and pepper to taste
1 egg (beaten)
Cook the spinach and potatoes individually in salted water. After cooking, drain the water and mash them well. Add grated cheese, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, mashed garlic, salt, pepper and beaten egg and knead well. Form patties and roll in flour. Fry in hot oil till they become pinkish.
White Rice Soup
Another tasty, wholesome and easy-to-make recipe is white rice soup. This recipe is also good for those who are on carb-free diet, because it has low carbohydrates and high proteins.
You will need:
1 liter of clear chicken broth or beef broth
200 grams sour cream
150 grams rice
Coriander or parsley (finely chopped)
Wash rice well and cook into boiling salted water. Squeeze the juice of half the lemon and add to the boiling rice. Keep stirring. Rice will be cooked well in almost 20 minutes. Drain it. Mix sour cream with 1 full egg and the yolk of the other egg. Add this mixture and pepper to the cooked rice. Pour the chicken or beef broth over this rice, while stirring the rice continuously. Add the juice of the remaining half lemon. Remove from flame. Sprinkle chopped coriander or parsley leaves and serve hot.
