Ten Keto Recipes that Won't Make You Feel Like You're on a Diet

Updated on August 27, 2020

Eating keto is all the rage and now, finding recipes is easier than ever. As cooks and amateurs cooks get creative with substitutions, I encourage you to stick to real food that you recognize. Part of the reason the keto diet works so well, is the shift to fresh, whole foods. So think twice about adding in chemicals just to cut out carbs. Here are some recipes that will satisfy your hunger.

10. Cake Batter Protein Shake

This cottage cheese based shake uses sugar-free pudding for taste, which means you can play around with flavors! It's on the slightly higher side of protein and carbs but can give you the energy you need to start the morning off right. Pack your lunch and dinner full of green veggies to balance your day with this sweet breakfast treat.

9. Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Bacon Cream Sauce

This delicious creamy chicken recipe is a favorite for everyone - keto or not. There's nothing restrictive about this meal, so serve it to your friends and family without having to explain why there's no bread or potatoes. The parmesan cheese makes a yummy chicken coating and bacon is the keto dieter's savior. I personally recommend doubling the sauce recipe for max flavor in every bite. Tip: pair it with the Brussels sprout recipe below and split the bacon between the two.

8. Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Pecans

Do you hate Brussels sprouts? That's because you've never had these. Brussels sprouts have to be cooked and seasoned thoroughly, otherwise, they'll have that bitter taste that you can smell smell when they're raw. Sprouts are a good source of fiber and Vitamin K, so roast these with some bacon and pecans for a flavorful veggie add to your keto diet. Sprouts also sautee well in a skillet with a little butter and bacon grease.

7. Chocolate Truffle Tort

Best thing about the keto diet? You're allowed to eat dessert. While most diets shun a sweet treat, keto diet is heavily focused on fats, so a sugar-free, creamy mousse or torte is guilt-free! Whipping cream and eggs help this torte keep the right consistency, and dark chocolate brings the flavor. You can even use 90% dark chocolate and the result will turn out delicious. If you find it's just a tad bitter, top it with some whipped cream.

6. Zucchini Noodles With Meatballs And Tomato Sauce

This is a perfect example of a stand alone dish that will keep you full and satisfied. While eating keto, you'll notice that if you start substituting keto-friendly foods for traditional ingredients, the food can feel lacking. It's almost as good as the real deal but not quite. That's why it's best to take that approach that you're trying new and different foods, rather than recreating old classics with approved ingredients. Zoodles aren't noodles, but they add a fresh, crisp veggie element to this dish. Enjoy the extra zucchini zing in this dish.

5. Cheese Taco Shells

While you may be fine ditching the corn of a tortilla, how will you hold all your low-carb ingredients without making a mess? Easy cheesy. Learn the simple art of baking cheese rounds in the oven and then shaping them into whatever kind of shell, bowl, or tostada you need. Cheese is a very versatile food that can be crispy, creamy, or chewy depending on what you add and how you cook it.

4. Easy Keto Cashew Chicken

Giving up carbs definitely doesn't mean giving up flavor - and Thai food isn't off limits! The spicy flavor of the chili sauce will have your taste buds dancing. Foods like this are flexible too - make a great sauce and then use it with chicken, shrimp, beef, broccoli, riced cauliflower, and more. Don't shy away from bold spices than can flavor an entire dish - and Asian food is full of them.

3. Salmon with Avocado Salsa

No matter what diet you're trying (or not trying) salmon is a healthy choice for protein and vitamins. Wild-caught salmon is your best bet, and pair it with that avocado keto staple and voila! A delicious, nutritious dish bursting with energy and taste. Salmon is great grilled, baked or smoked and is complemented by flavors such as lemon, parmesan, and rosemary.

2. Bacon and Egg Cups

Let's don't forget hot breakfast! The first meal of the day is actually pretty easy for someone on the keto diet. Coffee is a yes, tea is a yes, eggs, bacon and sausage are all go go go! And breakfast foods are all easily prepared in a short amount of time. If you're not one to spend your mornings in the kitchen though, you can make egg cups and freeze them - then reheat and serve whenever you want.

1. Creamy Pork Chops

One of the best things about the keto diet is that you can almost always have a filling and delicious entree. Pork chops are an excellent protein source and a juicy choice for dinner. Crispy on the outside and tender on the onside make pork chops a mouth-watering choice. Top it with a creamy sauce, or an aromatic blend of spices. Add some zucchini, squash, or asparagus for a well rounded meal. Looking for that creamy sauce?

I'm disappointed no one responded to this. I just started yet a couple of days ago I am going to try your parmesan chicken recipe.

My son lost 50lbs on keto and is rather fanatical. He uses ground up pork rinds in place of bread crumbs. All they have is pork, salt, and probably oil. I'm not a fan of them, but using them for bread crumbs once in awhile sounds good.

I miss all the fruits I love . Bananas and oranges particularly. Yes, I love berries but some of them are to acidic. Thanks for the reipes.
