What is it that makes Italian cuisine so quaint? Whenever Italian cooking is mentioned, images of sun-splashed kitchens and vibrant pasta dishes come to mind. Perhaps Italian cooking evokes these images because of how Italian food is cooked since Italian cuisine is simple yet delicious. No, not simply delicious, but absolutely exquisite. Many people around the world would do anything just to be able to learn to cook these exquisite dishes. Good thing there are Italian cooking classes offered nearly everywhere!

No matter where you live in the world, you will find various Italian cooking classes offered near you. Just look in the Yellow Pages or in online directories and you will find that there will surely be a culinary school near you which specializes in teaching Italian cooking. You don't have to go to Italy to learn how to cook Italian cuisine, unless it is your intention to become a great Italian chef and in that case there is no substitute for a few months in a culinary academy in Italy.

A typical Italian cooking class would begin with the basics. You would probably find out how to pick the freshest ingredients, as fresh ingredients are a must in Italian cuisine. Fresh ingredients will most definitely make or break your meal. Italian cooking relies far too much on the interaction of flavors that you can't risk the success of the entire dish by buying ingredients whose freshness is doubtful at best.

Since pasta is a staple in Italian food, Italian cooking classes would most likely teach you how to make pasta from scratch, and how to cook them to its perfect "al dente" firmness.

Italian cooking classes also offer courses on bread-making. Bread is considered an important part of an Italian meal. It is important to make the perfect crusty, Italian bread. After all, this would be your Italian meal's most basic staple. You can no more have a true Italian meal without bread than you can have a car without wheels.

Everyone who attends any form of Italian cooking school would certainly want to learn how to bake the perfect Italian pizza. Italian cooking classes will most likely devote a whole course for this. Learning how to make pizza would include learning how to make the dough, how to knead it and soften it to the right texture. Italian cooking classes also encourage their students to come up with their own combination of toppings. Pizza is a versatile dish, and you can customize it as much as you want, although some of the variants of pizza do tend to go outside the realm of what traditionally constitutes this famous dish.

Most Italian cooking classes also devote a special course for Italian wine. It is extremely important to understand the different flavors of Italian wine. This would aid the cook in choosing the perfect wine that would go along with your Italian meal. You certainly wouldn't want all your hard work in the kitchen to go to waste with the wrong move of picking the inappropriate wine!

If you are the type of person who doesn't have enough time or resources to undergo the complete course of Italian cooking classes, then most culinary schools offer short-term courses. These courses are more specific, focusing on certain aspects of Italian cuisine. Most people find that this is more than good enough, if you are only interested in learning how to make, say, pasta, or pizza. If you want more Italian classes in cooking, then you can always take some more short-term classes to broaden your horizons.

The important part of learning how to cook Italian is that you are open-minded and passionate about it. Sometimes, the cooking will be tiring. Or looking for the freshest ingredients will be stressful. It shouldn't matter, because for you, Italian cuisine is an art, and you should do anything to learn how to do it the right way. In the end, you'll know that you've earned your degree when you see the satisfied faces around your table after they have enjoyed a fantastico Italian meal prepared by you!
