moonlake, my husband eats lettuce sandwiches with mayo. I think lettuce is best straight from the garden.

I love lettuce but I hate lettuce in the bags it makes my mouth burn. If it's fresh I will eat it but otherwise forget it. When I was a kid I would come home from school and have lettuce sandwiches no mayo. Liked your recipes. Interesting hub and voted up.

KoffeeKlatch Gals, I am growing my own veggies for the first time this year and have enjoyed several veggie related hubs over the last week, seeking advice on how to grow it etc- I loved your lettuce hub - poor lettuce has a bit of a bad press, being on the whole a pretty ordinary salad veg but I love its crunch and I love stuff like rocket and lollo rosso and it's ideal in place of a pitta bread or sliced bread if you're trying to keep off the carbs!

Excellent hub - and my little iceberg seeds have popped though the soil this week :0)

I thought only raw foodists ate wraps made from lettuce, this is great! Lots of good info about lettuce. Collard greens are my favorite to use for wraps with their huge dark green leaves!

    • livelonger profile image

Interesting! I had always assumed lettuce was just "empty fiber" but there are nutrients, especially in the darker, more richly-colored varieties. I have a salad once a week that's made of a bunch of different types; the 'melange' of various bitter, pungent, peppery, and spicy flavors is great.
