The Cost of Making Au Gratin Potatoes

Updated on December 15, 2011
Source

I was very surprised to find that the cost of making au gratin potatoes from scratch is much higher than making from a box. The most expensive ingredient in this dish is the cheddar cheese, so I have also calculated the cost of this recipe without the cheese and it is still higher than making from a box. Now I have never made these potatoes from a box so I can’t comment on the taste. But when I make them from scratch I can control the quality of the ingredients and the amount of salt and fat. I also know there are no preservatives in it.

I've included the cost of my ingredients at the bottom of the article so you can compare to prices in your area.
