Who doesn’t love a chocolate chip cookie straight out of the oven! Ever wonder how much they cost to make compared to buying the refrigerator dough at the grocery store?

The following is for the traditional Toll House Cookie.

I've included the cost of my ingredients at the bottom of the article so you can compare to prices in your area.

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yield – 60 cookies

2 ¼ cups Flour $.29

1 t Baking soda $.01

1 t Salt $.00 (less than a penny)

1 cup Butter $2.50

3/4 cups Sugar $.31

¾ cups Brown sugar $.26

2 Eggs $.33

1 t Vanilla Extract $.34

2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate morsels $2.38

1 cup Walnuts $2.69

Total Cost $9.12

Cost for 17 cookies $2.58

Cost to buy refrigerator dough to make 17 cookies $3.99

Cost of my ingredients

$2.38 for 5 pounds of flour

$1.00 for 2 pounds of baking soda

$.58 for 26 ounces of salt

$4.99 for 1 pound of butter

$3.79 for 4 pounds of sugar

$1.44 for 2 pounds of brown sugar

$1.99 for a dozen eggs

$4.12 for 2 ounces of vanilla extract

$2.38 for 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate morsels

$4.88 for 8 ounces of chopped walnuts
