The Cost of Making Lasagna

I was pleasantly surprised to find that lasagna is cheaper to make from scratch. Please keep in mind that the cost will vary depending on the meats and cheeses that you use. But you can control the quality of the ingredients and the amount of salt and fat. And there are no preservatives in it.

I've included the cost of my ingredients at the bottom of the article so you can compare to prices in your area.

Lasagna

Yield - 8 servings

12 ounces Ground beef $2.77

1 Large onion $.33

2 Garlic cloves $.10

14.5 ounce can Diced tomatoes $.68

8 ounces Tomato sauce $.34

1 T Italian seasoning $.45

1 t Fennel seeds $.21

¼ t Pepper $.01

6 sheets Lasagna $.47

1 Egg $.17

15 ounces Ricotta $3.99

¼ cup Parmesan $.53

6 ounces Mozzarella $2.06

1/8 cup Parmesan $.26

Total Cost $12.37

$1.24 for 29 ounces of tomato sauce
