The World's Best Stevia Hot Chocolate / Hot Cocoa / Mocha

Updated on March 21, 2011

The Most Delicious!?

If you're looking for the World's Most Delicious stevia hot cocoa recipe, look no further! I developed this recipe a few years back, when I started using liquid stevia as a replacement for sugar.

Since then, I've made this for friends, coworkers, and even given the recipe to my students. Everyone who's had it says it's awesome, and most people don't even know the sugar's missing.

Stevia is a no-calorie, all-natural sweetner made from the leaf of the stevia plant. A few drops go a long way, so take it easy, and find what works best for you.

The best thing about this cocoa recipe is that it's not too sweet.  It's just a tiny bit bitter, and it tastes more of cocoa than of sugary sweetness.

You will need:

  • liquid stevia drops
  • 1/2 a cup of whole milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (not hot chocolate mix!)

Mix and Heat

Put the milk, the water, and 11 drops of stevia liquid in a colorful ceramic cereal bowl and microwave for three minutes.

Alternatively, you can heat it on the stove in a small saucepan for about 5 minutes.  Then, pour it into the cereal bowl.

Why a cereal bowl?  in Europe, people drink hot cocoa out of big drinking bowls.  It adds to the experience.  Really... I swear!

Whisk It!

  • Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to your bowl.
  • Use a whisk to blend it thoroughly.
  • Drink it. It will be tasty.

And Alternatively...

You use different flavored stevia drops for different tastes. There are toffee, vanilla, and fruit flavors available.

Add a teaspoon and a half of instant coffee to turn your hot cocoa into a mocha.  Decaf mochas available on demand!

Then, pour the mocha over ice and you've got... guess what?... an iced mocha!

Finally, if stevia isn't your thing, go ahead and use two teaspoons of sugar instead.  It's still pretty dang good!
