Tobasco Popcorn

Updated on May 13, 2015

A Simple, Tasty Sizzle

- Prepare one bag of microwave popcorn per instructions.

- Place in large bowl.

- Then add Tabasco Sauce to taste.

- Toss vigorously.

A pretty simple recipe indeed.

The 1st time I tasted this was at a pub where a friend had challenged me to give it a try. I went through 5 baskets of this savory snack that very night. I was convinced. Now I make my own.

One bag of microwave popcorn, dash on the Tabasco Sauce to taste, and toss thoroughly. I put mine on liberally, to say the least, as a personal preference.

Sauce at your own risk!

To mix it up a bit? I will use one of the other 6 flavors of Tabasco Sauce (Green Pepper, Chipotle, Buffalo, Habanero, Garlic Pepper, Sweet & Spicy) because they all work so well when tossed into a bowl of popcorn.

Any favorite Hot Sauce will do. My favorite cooking hot sauce has a slight Chipotle taste to it and comes in a bottle 5x's larger than the standard small Tabasco bottle. It only costs 69 cents and tastes great on my sodium free, butter free popcorn.

So if you haven't tried it, or know of somebody who would love it? I challenge you to try it, or share this with somebody who you know that would love it.

You just might find it hard to stop eating them. I know that I find it pretty hard to stop eating them.

Any suggestions to better spice up our lives, will always be appreciated.

So I went a bit too far now as I have tried some Wasabi powder and added a bit of sour and saltiness with Parmesan Cheese... Never thought Wasabi and Parmesan Cheese would marry up so will on Popcorn... But oh my!.. It's working for me... ~smiles~

What a recipe! It's on par with the wasabi flavoured peanuts I recently discovered here in Thailand. They are something to behold, trust me. Up and awesome

I must admit that I was wrong to state "my salt free" popcorn.. I had forgotten that once I add the hot sauce, the popcorn is no longer salt-free. Again, sauce at your own risk!

Spanish rice, if I remember correctly, has saffron in it... Maybe get a bag of spanish rice and review its ingredients in order to determine the spices used... I guess pretty much any spice that one likes can be used.

You want to know what's crazy? I've always loved the Spanish rice that gets served in the Mexican restaurants, but not the calorie count of that rice, due to the high starch content. Not all rice is created equal.

But popcorn done w/o all the junk is very healthy, or at least high in fiber. So, I actually want to see if I can find a "Spanish rice" flavored popcorn... and how do we get this?

Well, there's hot sauce or chipotle potato chips, I don't see why you can't do this with popcorn, since we have the sweet caramel corn, and then the sweet/salty popcorn.

I think I will buy a bag of kernels, and then the hot sauce can go right in with the oil, to get that nice coating on it while still popping nice and fluffy w/o anything bogging down the popped corn.

Thank you for the suggestion. What may be good too, is a pinch of garlic or onion powder, with or without the hot.

You can still make popcorn the old fashioned way.. with oil & kernels.

I believe it would be worth your effort... If it sounds good? It usually is good... Thanks for stopping by 'tlw' !!

Never heard of this, but I know that the sauce is awesome. I do eat Munchos and hot sauce. Most the chips have enough curve to pour a few drops of sauce on them:) I am down, but I still don't have a microwave. Computer-yes, Microwave-No. Cool article CM! I will try anything once, well, most things:)
