What is Kracie Popin' Cookin'?

Updated on June 8, 2012

Awesome Miniature Food!

One day, while browsing youtube, a friend told me to look up Kracie Popin' Cookin'. Curious and wondering what this could be, (thinking it sounded like it could be that sherbet stuff that crackles in your mouth) she told me it was these awesome Japanese DIY kits where you make mini food dishes that are edible, some of them being sweet and others savoury. Already enthralled by this description, I began watching the first video of someone making miniature sushi and it had me completely hooked and very quickly I had seen all of the Kracie Popin' Cookin' kits there were available. I could appreciate them immediately because the kits had both a simplicity and complexity to them. You are given powders that are various flavours which you add water to and then you have mini utensils to stir, cut, and shape your creations, which is simple enough, but then there's the complexity of how they are made to begin with, with all the flavours and textures that are reproduced, it's utterly fascinating. So without hesitation I was on a mission to find the best deal on ebay because I just had to try them.

It was such a hard decision though, there were so many, including the sushi, hamburgers and fries, ice cream, gummy sweet making kits, ramen, a bento lunch box, soft cookies, cupcakes and even donuts; all in their mini gloriousness that was just so cute and delicious looking. But I couldn't have all of them, much to my disappointment, it would have cost just a little bit too much. So I then spent a good few hours looking at the selections that were available and in the end I saw a set of four that included: the sushi, the ramen with gyoza, the hamburger with fries and Coke and finally the Oekaki gummy making kit and I ordered them for $34.50 which was £22.31 at the time of purchase (with post and packaging) This was one of the best deals I saw on there and it came through within two weeks in great condition, which I was extremely thrilled to see XD The seller even included a little mini sweet that said 'thank you' on it, which was a lovely touch.

I decided to savour the Popin' Cookin' as much as I could and on the first day it arrived, I made the Oekaki gummy's and saved the rest for another time. I did attempt to make them as perfectly as I had seen in the videos but that proved a little tricky. Nevertheless it was still really fun to make all of the kits and I would recommend giving any of the Kracie Popin' Cookin' a go because they're just great for many reasons. 1) If you enjoy making things, that's good because you get to mix up all the elements that result in creating wonderful little food treats. 2) They're cute because they're miniature ^.^ 3) They have interesting textures (especially the burger and fries) 4) They have a lot of choice and some are even savoury flavours. 5) They are edible, unlike other brands that use play dough and other substances 6) They taste pretty awesome too!

I can't wait to try more of them!

I hope to get a video up soon of the Oekaki gummy kit, but unfortunately I've had issues with Windows Live Movie Maker as it keeps crashing when I begin editing my video. For now you can have a look on youtube :)

(Please excuse that I've opened all the packets)

This one had a lovely fruity smell as you make your creations, it's really great because you get to mix your colours and choose where they're going and then they form very quickly so you can eat them within a couple of minutes :D

This one is grape flavour and it comes with rice (although that has a pretty plain flavour but a nice unusual texture to it), and also a seaweed wrap to go round a couple of your creations. The tuna and salmon also are a grape flavour.

This one had a pretty peculiar flavour to it, I would say don't mix the gyoza with the ramen because the gyoza is made of a chewy fruity sweet and the ramen is in a meat flavoured sauce. You should eat them separately.

This one actually tastes like a real burger! It comes with fries and then the coke is a sherbet you add water too. You need a microwave for this one. Best to eat it while warm too.

No the donut one is edible. All the Kracies range are made to be eaten.

Yes I agree they are tricky to make. You have to have a lot of patience but if they were too easy I would get bored quickly

I really liked the burger and fries, they definitely did taste like the real thing and the sushi was great fun to make (and it had a lovely grape flavour) I don't think I would have liked it if it did actually taste like sushi (I'm a little fussy)

I hope you can get a hold of some soon, they're awesome !

I watched some videos of that, and the comments say that they taste like the real thing. I was tickled pink while I was watching a vid of Kracie's burger and fries, and Kracie sushi (of different kinds). The "tuna" looked like a real tuna (with grooves on it).

I want to get hold of Kracie's!!!!
