Updated on May 26, 2015

The science behind making food : Facts less known and explored!

Yes, Food is the heart-throb of every individual in this planet. Over the period of years food has evolved from being a necessity to luxury but keeping aside all these facts it can be clearly concluded that it is the weakness of majority people. Let alone the fact of setting up food joints, knowing how to cook makes a person self-sustained. From time immemorial, it has been said and believed that cooking is an art but for the present generation cooking is like having a magic wand! The real importance of this task comes into picture only when a person decides to step out into the world where mom’s food becomes an occasional luxury!

Majority of the public confuses the ideology behind ‘just cooking’ and ‘cooking something healthy’. Instant Noodles, coffee, tea and readymade pasta definitely come under the banner of cooking but it’s healthy food that constructs a healthy body. Hence it is also very important to cook something that fulfils nutrient values.

Mageirocophobic Men : The Antidote is Ready!

The generic phobia of men towards cooking is a common phenomenon. This fact can however be counter-attacked with ease and in a most effective manner. Most men have an aversion towards this because of the primitive mindset that prevails in the society. Each task contributing towards a complete home has by default been assigned to men and women respectively. Mandatory tasks for women in a household primarily comprise of cooking and taking care of the household affairs. Hence, any intervention into this normality causes great pride loss among men and thereby the practice of educating kids to cook is solely rested upon the feminine kind. Few other factors that come into picture are quite amusing and interesting as well.

Why men afraid of cooking

  • The practice of women being assigned as home-makers is a common assumption in our society. This brings to light the fact that it’s the men who are the breadwinners. Tiring office work is one common reason cited by working husbands when it comes to stepping into the kitchen and cooking.

  • No matter how modern the families have grown, in the current scenario there always exists an element of competitiveness in a couple. Cooking together is a very healthy practice, for it pushes the pair to perform the responsibilities better. As far as it stays within the healthy parameters the family blossoms and blooms. Owing to the fact that most women are on a higher scale when it comes to cooking, men feardefeat and this creates a barrier between them and the kitchen! For most men kitchen is equal to a battlefield where the utensils are weapons which burn their hands or burn the food!

  • Patience is the major ingredient that makes any dish delicious. Most men lack this attribute for it’s nature’s code of life and nothing much can be done. However this fact is one main reason why majority of the husband's turn the kitchen upside down after making a meal.

  • Another reason that keeps men away from kitchen is their lack of interest towards cooking. Every task requires concentration and attention and cooking is no less different.

Kitchen the dwelling colony of women : A Stereotypical Society’s Brain Fodder

Right from time immemorial, since life form has taken shape, the task of making a meal is left to the feminine gender. During ancient times when humans used to hunt to survive, the practice of the men of the house hunting an animal and women making a meal out of the catch made sense. Nowadays, this ideology makes very little logic for the ingredients required for cooking are easily available in the market and there lies absolutely no herculean effort to acquire mandatory items!

It is high time the society reconsiders itself and the practice of imposing cookery lessons on girls becomes a compulsory aspect in grooming a boy as well. The act of blaming society wouldn’t be appropriate here for what humans learn is a product of what nature offers to teach. For instance, take into consideration a pride of lions, the responsibility of fixing a meal lies on the lioness while the lion cosily rest’s back in its cave!

Shifting focus back on the development of colonies and societies it can observed that all the civilizations have given quite a lot of importance to the practice of restricting women within four walls. This obviously draws a conclusion that they were always expected to cook while men did other jobs to keep the family running.

Ability to cook : An art which Ought to be practiced by men nowadays

The modern world has become highly competitive and the hunger to achieve more has drawn men out of their hometowns in search of fortunes. More people graduating in various disciplines every year has led to a constant growth of job opportunities in various nooks and corners of the world. Being a bachelor, working somewhere far away from family and loved ones it becomes imperative to learn the art of cooking for various reasons.

  • Every fresher has a mediocre income and this is a testing period for every employee because within this time-frame a lot of abilities are put to solid test. For instance, when considering an individual working in an IT firm in a metro city, food serves to be the top notch priority and it is practically void to consume meals on a daily basis from restaurants. The major reason being the financial constraint which would follow up. Cooking would make a difference as it would instil belief of being self-sustained and at the same time a good amount of money can be saved
  • Another major reason is the health and hygiene issues which follow post consumption of outside food for a long period of time. It can be agreed that there are good restaurants and hotels which serve good food at affordable prices but cleanliness and other factors like addition of preservatives, serving stale food and unhealthy cooking environments prevail like dark clouds.

Most men don’t survive this acid test mainly because of wrong choices of dishes. One must start with simple dishes which require less effort and slowly progress towards the harder dishes. Life skills taught via Cooking

This task is a perfect example for the proverb “As you sow, so shall you reap”. The more efforts one puts into making the dish, the tastier will the dish turn out to be! Further, the most important thing that one can learn is the art of patience which is the backbone of any successful human being. Apart from this, cooking also teaches one to be self-sustained and independent. In a world where every second is a fight for survival, cooking is undoubtedly one of the most important life skills that every man must learn!
