A Sphere, The Perfect Solution For A Perfect Cocktail!

Updated on June 16, 2014

Why I love this:

I'm not really sure how I heard about these ice sphere molds. But I remember reading an article about how a cube is different from a sphere in regard to cooling liquids around those shapes.

Why it works:

A sphere has more surface which is in actual contact with the liquid so, therefore it is able to more efficiently cool the liquid surrounding it. So, if you put a sphere in a cocktail glass that mostly fills it, the liquid cools a lot faster since it is in more contact with the sphere than it would be with a cube.

Well, everyone knows how we can create a cube shaped ice cube. But what about a sphere. How the heck do you do that?

Well, this contraption solves this problem.

How it works:

The bottom of the unit is a firm plastic shape that forms the bottom of the sphere. The top part is rubber and it forms the top part of the sphere. It has a hole at the top. I think this is very important. You just fill the base with water and then put the top on it. Any extra water comes out of the hole. I think that when the water freezes it will expand and the hole is where it expands from so any excess is covered there.

Once it is assembled, you just put it in your freezer and wait for it to freeze. When it is completely frozen you have a perfect sphere. The rubber allows you to twist it out of the firm plastic shape. It fills up your glass and creates the perfect chilled cocktail!

Whaaaat???

These are them.
