Last week I might have agreed with this statement. But recently, I discovered many vineyards use egg whites and casein to fine their red wines and now I am uncertain. (I wrote a hub on this.)
If one is not allergic to these agents, there appear to be positive health benefits-- especially for the heart, considering resveratrol. But if one has an inherited tendency toward alcoholism, well, that creates its own issues.
I had a weight problem and found that beer, of all drink, helped me keep my weight on- I tend to become too thin. But without regular exercise, even one beer a night can bring on an unsavory and flabby gut.
Where I live it is imperative that one consume a great deal of water each day! I have read recommendations of 8 glasses through out the day. Not as exciting as wine or other alcoholic drink, but it works for me.
