I was able to put a full meal, meat, an array of veggies, beans, cornbread, on the table by the time I was 10. My Grandmother was in the hospital with appendicitis ( sp).
Whatever, I knew, I learned at her knee. But, there was no 'formal' instruction of, first sear the meat, peel the potatoes, make the gravy, brown the bread. There were no recipies.
Truly, I learned by emulating what she did.
