First things first, Brandy should be decanted. If you have crystal, use it. If not, glass will have to do.
Use a Brandy Glass (a tumbler). They have a specific shape for a reason. After you pour the brandy into the glass, pick up the glass as if you are cupping it in your hand with your fingers spread around the base of the glass. Swirl the brandy in the glass to activate the smell and give it time to warm a bit from your body heat.
When you drink, don't gulp. Brandy is to be sipped, not devoured. Hold the liquid in your mouth a moment so your palette can appreciate the flavor of the brandy. Made from different wines and fruits, brandy has a surprising number of subtle flavors you will miss if you hurry through your tumbler.
