   Does eating bugs provide any nutrients?
   
   Does eating insects and bugs provide any nutrients or are they just a delicacy. What bugs have you eaten and why?

   They can save your life if you are truly starving to death--otherwise it's just disgusting. Don't eat bugs. Especially raw ones. That is a good way to get parasites like tapeworms. I once ate a hotlix sucker with a scorpion inside. Great novelty.

   I have read that they do and since other cultures do I am sure it is true, but I would have to be without anything to eat bugs, (or worms!).

   If it a life saving attempt. Then you would have no choice. The thing is it is not the taste of the bugs that you should be worried about. You eat medicine and that too is very distasteful at times. But the time is 'whether your digestive system is able to digestive it properly'. Because even if the bug is poisonous and your stomach can digest it. Don't worry at all. Because it is not, in that case, poisonous for us. May be for some other animal, but not for our body.
   And the second thing is. Even is you want to eat bugs. Try to cook them on bare fire. It will kill most of the bacteria. And those bacteria which are not killed, their growth will be retarded. So it will not be that much harmful.
   These are the only two scientific answers I could share.

   Many insect contain protein.  However, there are much better ways to get protein.  Personally I rather get my protein from eggs and chicken.    So to answer your question... I do not believe insects provide any nutrients or health benefits that can not be found in other food/animal sources.
   
   One hazard of eating insects is due to the pesticide that they accumulate on them.  If you do eat them, make sure they are well cooked.

   Apparently they are full of protein and the only bugs I've eaten would be ones I've not known about on any vegetables or in salads or the odd fly whilst out cycling.

   Interesting question.
   In a study carried out in Southern India ,some years ago,as to why women living there, and eating only vegan foods,had remarkably high iron levels:it was discovered that their high intake of bugs on fruit and vegetables was the main reason for their high iron levels,and  lack of iron deficiency anaemia.
