How can I learn to like healthy foods more than I do junk foods?

How can I get into the habit of eating healthy foods when junk food is so cheap and much more readily available? How can I learn to like healthy foods more than I like junk food?

Go on the Perricone Diet that is recommended in Dr. Nicolas Perricone's book called "The Perricone Prescription".

    http://www.amazon.com/Perricone-Prescri … 0060934352

When you see the before's and after's in this book based on what a good diet can do to help your skin and aging, then you will learn to like healthy foods knowing that you will be making a huge difference to your physical well being and guard against aging too fast.

In this book, he has a 3 day and 28 day diet.  Stick to the 28 day diet as long as you possibly can and you will see a huge difference in your physical well being and health.

Clear your pantry, refrigerator, and house of any foods that are not on the "recommended list"-- and only purchase the foods that he has on his lists.

When you go to a restaurant, try to stick as closely to his recommended foods.

In a few months, you won't believe that you have ever eaten foods that are NOT healthy.

    -------

Allow yourself one or two meals a week where you eat the old stuff that you used to like.  Don't try to quit these completely "cold turkey".  When you see how much better you feel with the recommended foods, it will be a very easy switch!

My response is I want to know too. I work from 1pm on and just can't get the energy together to make a lunch. So eating out then is a habit. Plus I only eat two meals a day.

I have the same problem at times! What I find works for me, is starting out small like grabbing healthy snacks from the store and working up to full course meals. Making healthy snacks might be time consuming but it's so much healthier to be able to grab those homemade snacks and bring them along than stopping and picking up junk food. Learning to cook some tasty healthy meals might also help. I received a great cookbook for Christmas and it's really helped to reshape my diet towards a healthy and happier lifestyle. Having fun while cooking healthy foods, will draw you towards wanting to take the time to make those foods:)

I've found that just making the choice to eat a healthier thing, even when you don't want to, will eventually lead you to liking it better. For example, I tried to get sorbet instead of ice cream if I wanted a frozen dessert for a long time. Now I don't even really like ice cream because it's just too much for me. I like having candy every once in a while, but after not eating it for a long time, most candy will taste way to swet and won't even be appealing. You just have to train yourself by reaching for sweet fruits instead of candy for a while.

As an ex sandwich maker bet you know how to make tasty sandwiches.
Try to eat low fat stuff and discover the great taste of the mediterranean cuisine with tomatoes, olive oil and olives (good for low cholisterol)  garlic (good for the heart) onions (good for blood circulation). Avoid salt and sugar as much as possible

You'd be surprised at how easy it is to replace sucrose-loaded snacks with fructose-loaded fruits.
Anyway, once you start eating healthier again, your Zinc levels (among others) will most likely rise and the healthier foods will start tasting better and better to you, trust me...  Before long, you'll wonder why you even ate that junk in the first place; try it and you will see.  wink

Reading about the health benefits of eating well can motivate you to improve your habits. So check out a well-written book on nutrition or watch a series of programs on the subject.

Try changing some of your bad habits slowly. Depending on what you like if it's soda, candy, etc. say this week I'm going to substitute one healthy food for that item. And slowly integrate healthy foods into your nutritional plan. I don't like to say the word diet because then it changes your mental perspective on what you're eating. Say phrases like I am excited to try this fruit or this fruit looks so juicy and sweet. By using better phrases when you're eating, your mind will crave different foods. You don't have to cut out all junk food but try making healthy choices regarding the junk food that you do eat.
