   What is your favorite cold treat to beat the heat during a heat wave?
   
   We've had record high temps in my area (and lots of places actually!) If you could choose only ONE favorite cold treat on a steaming hot, humid 100+ degree day - what would you choose?
   
   Mine is ice cold grapes - so refreshing!  We keep them in the ice box or sometimes pop in the freezer for a few minutes before eating them - YUM. Light but super cold and sweet.

      I like a good glass of tea too.  When its not a thousand degrees outside raspberry tea is also delicious hot.

      absolutely! We tried a "black diamond" watermelon yesterday. It was pretty tasty, really sweet.  I think I'm more of a traditionalist, but it's a neat one to try if you haven't before. I like cantaloupe too

      agreed! I make these for my sons and they love them but in this heat I've been cleaning up more of then than they've been eating!

   I was actually going to say frozen grapes! They taste like sherbert! Pretty much any frozen fruit. I always keep a few bags in the freezer.

      haha great minds I keep frozen fruit too, I love the mixed berry blends.  I sometimes throw in drinks in place of ice cubes - works well and gives more flavor to lemonade and tea etc.

   I have just discovered Edy's Fruit Pops. I like the coconut ones. They are not so full of sugar as some of the popsicles.  I also like to eat watermelon and peaches for dinner when it is super hot.  If my husband is hungry, he makes a nice gazpacho!

    I will give a plug here to Trader Joe's for their frozen fruit bars, three layers of pure fruit, strawberry, lemon and raspberry.   I'm sure these could be made at home but they are perfect for a decent price of a box of 4 for $1.99, less than the cost of a junk soft drink and much much more pleasing to your palette.  In search of another brand closer to home I purchased Kroger's frozen bars in pomegranate and strawberry flavors.  At 2 for $4.00, they were a close substitute but not nearly as good as Trader Joe's.   These are not only refreshing, they are not loaded with calories and sugar.   Delicious!

       I love Trader Joe's! I only wish they had some stores closer to us, it's like an hour away but we go now and then.  Best food ever!

       I like good old vanilla ice cream too, wanted to go get a scoop yesterday, but at 105 degrees I figured it would be soup as soon as they handed it to me lol.  has to be "real" ice cream too none of that soft serve stuff

    A tall glass of fresh lemon juice, mixed with crushed mint leaves and lot of crushed ice. You may add little sugar if you like. Another option is ripe mango pieces or water melon. In India Lassi, which is made of home made curd is a very popular drink in summers.

       Lassi is more or less like yogurt. You can add fruits such as mango or pineapple in lassi, if made in a food processor/ mixer.

    I love making home-made popsicles.  I don't like the high sugar content of most of the kinds you find in stores (except Edy's Fruit Bars), so I like to make my own.  Tupperware has great popsicle making sets, and I use mine to freeze fruit juice (sometimes watered down to reduce the sugar content) mixed with fresh fruit.  What I love best about it is you can mix different juices into one popsicle batch, so you can make them any flavor you want!!

       I agree, I make homemade ones all the times for my boys so that they are healthy and not full of chemicals and other junk.  The variety is definitely a plus.

    i love icecream! and will use any heatwave as an excuse to eat more... although when it is super hot, i tend to prefer more refreshing items like a cold glass of water, or a sherbert slammer type drink from friendly's or somewhere else.. things that are super sweet just don't seem quite as refreshing to me when i'm real hot.

    Cold summer vegetable soup. I made some yesterday with zucchini from a friend's garden. A bowl of it with some yoghurt on top cools you right down.

    This weekend, at the Midsummer Fantasy renaissance faire, I got to enjoy the perfect hot weather treat.
    
    One of the food vendors was making Persian ice drinks. He was starting with shaved ice, adding a touch of apple cider vinegar for tartness and to help prevent heatstroke and flavoring them with custommade syrups with no preservatives or extra ingredients.
    
    He had standard flavors, like cherry and strawberry, but he also had more exotic flavors, like ginger, mint or vanilla cardomon. My favorite was the raspberry jalapeno, which had just enough zip to make the raspberry pop its head up an say "Hi!"
    
    Very refreshing...

    I prefer ice water because it's cooling, clean, refreshing, and re-hydrates!
