Definitely, if I'm on diet.smile. It's a proper and best way to stay on diet and not to offend the person who invited me to the dinner party. smile

      ctnahda,
Good. I'll take along my protein drinks and I won't feel bad about it.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

I also agree that yes, you can eat whatever you please.  I often just eat vegan where I go, and the way I see it is:  if they are offended, that is their problem.  Often, whoever I am with knows that I eat certain ways and since I respect how they eat, they should respect how I eat.  smile

      vandynegl,
Yes, I think we should be serious about what we eat no matter where we are. I guess we do just have to stand up for ourselves and say something.
      Thanks,
      Lisa

No. To be honest, I cannot eat salad. It's cold, it's leafy, it's not a meal. I'm not a rabbit. If a meal, not including breakfast, does not have meat, I'm concerned and will find something else. Give me real food!

      lburmaster,
I couldn't eat the salads if they didn't have chicken, shrimp, or steak in them. I've just gotten into this veggie thing and I'm trying to avoid eating too much bread. I don't always eat salad. Last night I had ravoli with chicken.

When I receive a dinner invite, if it is from someone who has not known me long, I am sure to inform them I am a vegetarian, so I won't feel awkward, and they won't be resentful that I only picked around the "main dish."
However, if salad is the only thing to eat, I will eat it and happily, as well as the vegetables and whatever starch might be served.
A traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner is a perfect example of how possible it is to eat "around" the main, featured dish; there are so many other things served that you can certainly stuff yourself without touching the turkey and gravy.

      DzyMsLizzy,
You know, the way my friends and family cook allows me to eat the way I want to so I feel lucky. If I want to bring something special I'll do it.
      Thanks,
      Lisa
