That makes sense. The shift to organic seems pricey initially, but I am hopeful in the longrun the cost will even out. I'm looking forward to the positive health effects everyone talks about too :)
Never even thought of gum! Luckily I don't chew very much of it, but I will have to be on the lookout.
Yes, since organic isn't a complete option for me right now, I am trying to shift toward whole, natural foods. Planning on frequenting the farmers market this summer which I'm sure should help :)
I like your idea of focusing on one food category each week. I think this will be a good way for me to start. I think I will try your suggestion of starting w/ easy swaps and then building up - less frustration. My first swap is fororganic yogurt.
