What do you do when you just start to get bored with food?

I thumb through recipe after recipe and it all is the same to me. I'm bored of American food and all ethnic food seems redundant too. How do I spice it up with out adding the spicy?

Try making your own recipe, be creative and experiment different ingredients and see the result if you like it then do it next time. I don't like too much spice in my cooking. I use my own veg which I grow. I think using less spice is better.

I"m generally pretty good with making my own stuff up. I went through a phase for the first 5 years of my adult life of just dating chefs (I highly recommend it!) and learned a little bit about throwing stuff together. I think I'm bored of the store

You're bored with Am-food, yet you feel ethnic foods are redundant?  It's straight to dog food from here dearie...lol, there may be flavors that are not too spicy for you there.  Peace.  Kawi.

I think what it is, is that I don't know enough about ethnic foods to cook it myself. I'll give that dog food a try though wink

I know how you feel I have GERD so spicy is out for me if it is derived from acid like peppers, I can eat mustards horseradish or wasabi.
Sometimes when nothing strikes me I just challenge myself to create something new other times I figure its a god time to diet and just eat some kind of filler.
Fortunately for my, but not my weight, I always seem to find something in my cookbooks that catches my stomach's eye.
But now that I am living expat my library of cookbooks is one of the things I had to leave behind, still there is the internet and the cooking channels.

Boy howdy do I love the food channel! I just never have time to watch it! lol.
I do surf the internet for recipes, but it's always the kind of American dishes I have to wade through. I used to sit for hours writing recipes on index cards online!

Change your search query to include something like Asian or another to eliminate many of the American returns

I can't imagine being bored with food.  If you want more ideas, why not try out a few different types of restaurant to see what they have on offer?  Or maybe you could sit down quietly and think of some ingredients, flavors or textures that you like, then write them down, and come up with a meal, snack, or something you find palatable.
French cooking is considered to be tops, very delicate and flavorsome without being very spicy. And remember, there's a  big difference between "hot spicy", and just "spicy".  Most spices are not actually hot at all, and merely add a different flavor to your food.  If you don't like the heat of chilli, mustard and ginger, this doesn't preclude milder spices, and, of course, herbs.

I do want to try French cooking - let's face it, Julia Childs is pretty inspiring! Maybe now is the time to try. Thanks for the suggestion!

As my husband. All I have to say is that I want something new and he pulls a recipe out of his magical hat that I've never heard of before. You need to try something new in your location. It could be pigs feet, frog legs, shark fin soup, fried gator, etc.

mmmm gator! I wish we had a supplier for that. We're pretty far from the south, I don't know where I'd get that. But you're right, I'll give something super new and unusual a go!

You might think this sounds kind of crazy - many people do, but I actually enjoy it. Look up raw food recipes and try them. They teach you how to combine many different flavors of fruits, veggies, grains, etc. and you get a whole new experience with tastes and textures with raw meals (and it's healthy too) There are a million ways to put things together I had never even imagined before doing a raw foods diet for a month as a cleanse.  It really wakes up your taste buds again.  Also, skip the grocery store and go to a farmer's market for very fresh stuff to get the best flavors. By the time stuff is shipped to the grocery store it loses a lot of nutrients, flavor and texture. The fresher the better and try combos that seem weird on paper - they often taste the best.

Yes! I have wanted to do the raw food thing (In love with welikeitraw.com!), But in general, I really enjoy warm food. And I completely agree with everything you're saying! smile

For many years I managed the butcher shop in our local grocery store and ran into this on a daily basis from my customers. The housewives who had burned out on cooking for their families day after day after day became a challenge for me to invent something new and different, yet quick and easy.   I would suggest cooking in the oriental style. It is amazing what you can throw in a wok for something new and different every day.  Be adventurous! Try different flavors or off the wall combos just to see what you come up with.  We did green peppers and peanuts with cauliflower the other night that came out fantastic! Who knew? I hope this helps...

I look up restaurant recipes online, they are really good like KFC Chicken, Olive garden rolls and soup, Long John Silver's Cole slaw. It perks up everyone's appetite and there are just hundreds of things, and all I have tried is really good.

Eat simple, clean home-cooked food consisting of lots of veggies, fruits, plus incorporate a good workout plan in your daily life to keep your metabolism at good pace..  do some meditation and feel the energy cycle..

One more thing i would say u should have respect for ur food because half of world's population even do not get one-time food.. Your lucky dear that u can even get bored with it.. think about them who die starving..Next time you will love your food..

Thousands of recipes out there, laksa, char hor fun, nasi lemak, cevapi, burek, i have no idea what kind of food you like so i can't really recommend anything specific to your taste, I personally enjoy a wide variety of food smile yesterday i had foo young egg, fried cabbage in oyster sauce, stir fried chicken in hoisin sauce and a clear vegetable soup with white rice for lunch. day before i had Hungarian goulash with red wine and  home baked bread.

Try looking up Cantonese recipes ( usually less spicy then other Asian Recipes) authentic Cantonese food tastes very different from what you get in the restaurants.

Mediterranean recipes, very healthy meals, a lot of vegetables, beans, nuts, and olives, some chicken and fish, very little red meat, for the health conscious folk.

French food, a lot of focus on sauces and marinades, a little harder to cook though. usually more prep time required

German food, hearty meals, a lot of pork dishes, potatoes, their roasted dishes are fantastic.

Croatian recipes, bbq meats and stews galore.

I could probably go on for ages, but then I do love me a good meal smile
