Apple Corer and Slicer -- All the Uses for This Kitchen Gadget

Updated on September 11, 2014

Apple Corers and Slicers Are Great for Other Fruits Too

You've probably seen those apple corer and slicer metal kitchen gadgets that can core and slice an apple in one fell swoop. An apple corer and slicer is a handy tool that doesn't get the praise it deserves.

Did you know that these corers and slicers also work on pears and pineapple? They do, in fact, and they work very well.

I recently used my slicer gadget to take that stubborn hard core out of pineapple slices easily and neatly. The pineapple was ripe so it was very juicy, so it got a little messy but no messier than if I'd sliced the fruit with a knife.

I also used the apple slicer to cut hard-boiled eggs for egg salad. It worked great though it was too messy.

My only complaint with the corer and slicer is that I usually have to use a knife to remove a small portion of the core with seeds from portions of apples and pears sometimes. But it's no big whoop.

Pineapple Sliced and Cored

Think outside the apple box.

Use your apple corer and slicer for more than just apples. I've been on an apple kick lately and have had it out handy. When I bought a pineapple the other day, I thought maybe my corer and slicer would work for pineapple too. And it worked very well as the picture shows.

I had to push the pineapple pieces through the bottom to the dish but then I held it over the trash can and pushed the core out and away. Bye, bye, pineapple core.

Caramel Apples - Made the Easy Way

If you use an apple corer and slicer, you can whip up a batch of apple slices in minutes. To make them even better, add some caramel dip for a tasty treat!

This little gadget makes it easier to grab fruit, slice it up, and eat it. So, for me, this kitchen gadget helps me eat better (when I leave off the dip, but once in a while, it won't hurt us, right?).

I can't live without my corer/slicer, nothing would ever get sliced. When my youngest son was a toddler I was slicing apples for snack time in the kitchen with a paring knife when the knife slipped and I cut my pinky finger really bad, bled all over the counter, and then promptly fainted while he was standing right there next to me. He freaked out every time I picked up a knife after that, he'd yell "no apple!" or "careful!" at me every single time. My mom brought me a corer/slicer a week or two after that incident and we still use it all the time because it's just so much easier and faster, and I can let the kids use it without having to worry about them getting cut or making a mess.

Great idea for an article, other uses for an apple corer gadget. I was looking a gadget this morning where people were suggesting other uses. Perfect time to come up with multiple uses for a gadget. Clever!

I never thought about using an apple corer for pears or pineapples. What a great idea! Have you ever used an apple peeler? I wonder what other uses it could have?

      Blessed by a Squid Angel!

@evelynsaenz1: I rarely peel my apples so no, have never used an apple peeler. I wonder if it's similar to a potato peeler.

I guess I'm not good at thinking outside the box! I've never thought to use mine for anything but apples. But I'm a kitchen gadget junkie! I can't resist shiny kitchen tools, even if I don't know what they do! Great lens! Thanks for pointing out some alternative uses!
