No Sugar Added Low Fat Microwave Baked Apples With Hot Caramel Sauce
Cinnamony, Buttery Baked Apples With Hot Caramel Sauce... With Low Fat And No Sugar? Really!
I know, I couldn't believe it either! This was one of those happy cooking accidents, that moment of serendipity when you say to yourself, "Holy cats - I actually made this!" You know... when you started out doing one thing and accidentally created another? Well, this is one of those recipes.
It all started when my dear husband handed me a couple of Gala apples and wanted me to bake them on a sheet for him. Okey-doke. Not one to do things the easy way, I cut the apples into eighths and placed them in a little glass baking dish. I mixed up a few ingredients to add to the apples and set them in my microwave to cook for about 12 minutes. All in all, the apple dish didn't take 5 minutes to prep.
When I saw what came out of my microwave, I ran to grab a coffee mug and put some no sugar vanilla ice cream in it! I spooned all the hot, bubbly, gooey wonderfulness and apples out of the pan over the ice cream and a minute later, I had arrived in food heaven!
We're all trying to eat healthier nowadays, but we still want our taste! The no-sugar-added and low-fat recipe means it's nearly as healthy for your diet as just eating an apple. So if you have a couple of apples you need something good to do with, here's your perfect solution! And believe me... this is soooo much more fun! What a way to celebrate Healthy Heart Month in February, or any other day of the year!
