What Is The Best Electric Fillet Knife In 2016?

Updated on March 21, 2016

Mister Twister - Best Seller

Electric Fillet Knife Reviews

Welcome to my best electric fillet knife reviews and I hope that you find them useful. Many people just use a hand held knife when fishing or when preparing fish, so what makes an electric fillet knife any better?

Well there are a few reasons I guess why I prefer to use an electric one.

If you catch a lot of fish (I actually do sometimes) then it is a lot quicker to get through them than doing it all by hand. I also found that the tougher fish such as red fish, vermilion, snapper, box trout or the black drum are hard to do even with a really sharp knife, whereas an electric one just whizzes through them.

One of the best electric fillet knives is the American Angler 110V shark blade. The Rapala Lithium Ion is also a good cordless fillet knife and it's handy because you can just plug it into your cigarette lighter and it will get through almost anything. Mister Twister 110V also gets really decent reviews.

I would also recommend that no matter which fillet knife you decide to buy, then also buy a fillet glove. The brand I like for these is Bass Pro as they are top class.

A Helpful Buying Guide

I think it is always helpful to know what features you should look for before buying any product, and a fillet knife is just the same. I have therefore put together what you should look out for when considering buying one of these. Now if you are a chef, you may already know this, so please feel free to move on to the next section.

The blade needs to have a degree of flexible movement to allow you to work in and around the nones and parts of a fish. Now sure you will need a thick enough blade to work on the bigger fish like pike, but it still needs to have some movement to allow you to get in and around the bones that need to be removed.

Power Source

This might seem obvious but I just wanted to make sure that you had thought about it. So you will either need a 110 volt power source at home, or a 12v battery outlet in your vehicle. For either source an important consideration is the length of the lead, as at the end of the day, it has to be long enough to allow you to work.

Different Blades

You will catch different fish and they will be different shapes and sizes. Finding a fillet knife where you can change the blades is the perfect one. Typically you can get 6" and 8" blades which are inter-changeable and that makes a really useful set to own.

This one is important to consider if you plan on filleting a lot of fish. If this knife is going to be in your hand a lot, you will want a handle that has an ergonomic design, and will not cause cramp in the fingers and hands.

Carrying Case

Being able to store the knife, blades and lead all in one place is just a sensible thing to have. It simply helps different parts from getting lost.

Every now and then there are various challenges as to who can fillet a fish the fastest. Leading chefs take part in this, and they are then judged. These are some of the favorite knives that come out on top time after time.

Mister Twister 120V Electric Knife (Green/Yellow)

The Mister Twister has a pretty cool name but there is a lot more to this knife than just the name. This is another big brand name when it comes to the electric fillet knife, and range of associated fishing products. Again this one stacks up pretty well and is well reviewed and liked by buyers from Amazon.

Weighs 1.6 lbs

It gets a steady rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars on Amazon and has more cutting torque than many of its competitors. It has longer lasting metal gears and bearings, so something that will last a long time.

Please just be aware this is not cordless.

It is easily recognised by its bright green and yellow color, and overall I think it is a tough and durable knife suitable for most purposes.

Fillet Gloves Available at Amazon

Any knife or any sharp blade instrument is dangerous. When you add to that some electricity then just imagine what that could do to your hands. That's why I would always recommend some gloves to make sure you are well protected.

These gloves have been specifically designed and made for working with these types of knives so please don't buy a knife and leave out the gloves. There is just no point in losing a finger, or leaving yourself with a really nasty cut, when these are available.

I know a lot of people who fish, and I also know people who do this for a living. Almost all of them will wear some type of protective glove, especially if they are using the electric version of a knife. One slip with one of these can make a terrible mess. Believe me please as I have seen so many accidents with knives over the years.

Electric Fillet Knife Replacement Blades At Amazon

The following electric fillet replacement blades are currently available at Amazon. There will always come a time when you will need to replace a dull blade that has gone beyond the realms of sharpening.

Always make sure that whichever electric fillet knife you buy that there are replacement blades available for them. Some manufacturers don't offer this as an option and I would avoid those.
