Switzerland Food Recipes

Updated on January 23, 2016

My favorite swiss recipes

I simply love traditional Swiss food. It is not just the taste of these traditional Swiss recipes which is delicious, it is also the concept and the companionable atmosphere of sitting at a large wood table by a brightly burning log fire in a cozy Swiss Chalet restaurant in the Alps, dipping your bread in the bubbly cheese fondue or taking turns at grilling your raclette, enjoying the company and the sharing and the wine, while watching the snow covered slopes out of the frosted glass windows.

I have been regularly visiting and skiing in Switzerland since I was a kid, and over the years I have collected a wide range of genuine traditional Swiss recipes, which I often cook at home in winter, to bring back this wonderfully cozy and relaxed holiday atmosphere. In this page I will share with you some of my favorite Switzerland food recipes, like cheese and meat fondue, raclette, tartiflette and more. I will keep updating this page as often as I can with new Swiss recipes, so if you like them be sure to come back for more.

Why not bring a small piece of Switzerland on your table this winter?

The best swiss cheese fondue recipe

Traditional swiss cheese fondue is my favorite swiss recipe. It is warm and bubbly and rich and chewy and stringy and accompanied by crusty french bread and chilled white wine, there is nothing like it to enjoy the company of family and friends on a cold winter evening by the fire. Even better, it only takes a few very simple and easy to find ingredients and not more than 20 minutes to prepare a truly delicious cheese fondue.

Traditional or electric, a fondue pot is essential for a successful swiss fondue

The best cheese raclette recipe

Traditional raclette is my second favorite choice for a cozy, companionable winter meal. It is great for entertaining, as everybody gathers around the raclette grill and cooks their own food and the meal can go on for hours, just like the cheese fondue meal above, inducing conversation and contact and sharing. Raclette is also extremely easy to prepare and serve. Just slice the cheese, boil the potatoes, prepare the platters of dried meats and pickles and enjoy a most delicious meal

The Best Meat Fondue Recipe

Meat fondue is another old favorite of mine. Whether you prefer Fondue Bourguignone or Fondue Chinoise or Fondue Vignerogne, which is the new great hit in Switzerland, you can't go wrong. Serve it with a variety of spicy and mild sauces and a large green salad, and you have a wonderful dinner idea, easy and tasty and perfect for entertaining.

The best Tartiflette recipe

Tartiflette is another favorite traditional recipe in Switzerland. A rich gratin consisting of creamy potatoes, salty bacon, onions, cheese and wine, tartiflette is a delicious winter comfort food to enjoy after a day on the snowy slopes. Very easy to prepare, it will become a family favorite, perfect for a dinner table, as well as a warm and filling meal with the kids.

I do. There was one dish that I used to eat when I worked in Switzerland in the 90s that I can't remember the name of though! I also like fondue, there's something about it.

We haven't used our fondue in years, my favorite would be the cheese fondue. Thanks for reminding me.

I had Tartiflette at the restaurant on the top of Mt.Titlas in Engelberg on a beautiful sunny day. Could see all the alps.

Fondue is my favorite but each of these sounds delightful. The potato dish is like my mother made, though I don't know of any Swiss family connections.

@ismeedee: Try the Fondue Chinoise! It is not fattening at all!

Apart from it being rather fattening with lots of cheese- yes! Love the gratin recipe! I do often eat Swiss Emmenthal cheese- so yummy!

I bet they are enjoyed a lot more in the Swiss setting you described so well. Haven't had a fondue meal in years, brings back great memories.
