Cajun Tilapia Fish Fry Recipe

Updated on March 3, 2016

Tilapia and Slap Ya Mama

I've had this Cajun fish fry spice mix in my cupboard for several years now, which is made by Walker & Sons. It was in a gift pack that I'd rec'd from my mother in law. I use and absolutely love all the Cajun spices that are called "Slap Ya Mama." If you've never tried it and like to add a little spicy to your food, you'll more than likely like this one.

I don't make fish as often as I'd like to because 2 of my 3 sons balk whenever they hear that we're having fish for dinner. They'll eat fish n chips if it's take out but not fish that I make at home. Oh well their loss.

A few days ago I had bought some fresh tilapia fillets, and last night I decided to try them with Slap Ya Mama Cajun Fish Fry. See this picture? My husband ate most of it and said to me, "We really should have fish more often."

Electric Skillet

For the recipe below you can either pan fry the fish, use an electric frying pan, or deep fry it.

Cook with ease in this electric skillet. Clean up is fast because of the non stick finish. It has a removable temperature control that goes from simmer up to 420 degrees F. It is perfect if you're cooking for more than 3 people, or for large gatherings. Dishwasher safe and cool touch handles.

Three Ingredients for Cajun Tilapia Fish Fry

Ingredients

Tilapia fillets - I used 6 but this will all depend on how many people you're feeding. I personally would say 1 - 1/2 fillets per person.

Canola or vegetable oil to fry the fish. I used 4 tablespoons of Canola.

Slap Ya Mama Cajun Fish Fry seasoning

Instructions

1. Rinse the fillets under cold water, and shake off the excess water.

2. Pour the season mix onto a plate and coat the fillets making sure that they are well coated.

3. If using an electric skillet or frying pan coat the bottom of the pan with oil and heat to 350° F.

4. Place the fillets in the pan flipping them once. Once they are cooked (can be flaked with a fork) remove from the pan.

5. Drain the fillets on paper towels to soak up any remaining oil.

6. Serve and Enjoy!

Interesting, but probably too spicy for me. I like the addition of the jokes, they were silly, but fun.
