Camerons Stovetop Smoker Recipe: Smoked Chicken Thighs

Welcome to our smoked chicken thighs adventure on the Camerons Stovetop Smoker. This time Abby and I decided today that we would try to cook dinner for the family  for under $10 that everyone would actually like. Now we took a look at the Stop and Shop circular and saw chicken thighs for $1.20/lb so off to the store to buy chicken thighs and french fries. We didn't know it yet be we took our first steps towards a meal that will be talked about for a long time. Please check out the recipe and enjoy!

  • Just as a side note that this is only the second time using our Camerons stovetop smoker. It is an adventure into the world of cooking with smoke that is being done as a summer project with my daughter Abby. Make sure to check out our other Camerons Stovetop Smoker lenses at the bottom of this page.

Pull Skin Off Of Chicken Thighs - This Step Is Optional

I started by pulling off the skin from the chicken thighs. Now this is purely optional, but I am not a huge fan of the thick chicken skin on thighs so I pulled it off. If you want to keep it on then skip this step.

Melt Butter In Microwave

We then took 3 tablespoons of butter and melted it in the microwave.

Pour Melted Butter Over Chicken Thighs

We then poured the melted butter over the chicken thighs. I used a fork to mix them so they all got a kiss of butter on them.

Season With Some Salt and Pepper

Then they were sprinkled with a little bit of salt and pepper. I like the strong taste of kosher salt but any salt will do. You can also at this point use your favorite poultry seasoning at this time to make your own flavors.

Place Woodchips In Smoker

I then went for classic BBQ flavor and used 1 1/2 tbs of Camerons Stovetop Smoker Hickory chips. I made the small mound in the middle and sprinkled a little bit around the pan for good measure.

  • On a side note in the picture you can see the first black staining on the stovetop smoker. This is normal and according to the manual it shows that you are using the smoker the right way. So if you were wondering it's not dirty....just well loved.

We then are all about easy clean up, so we lined the drip tray with aluminum foil and sprayed the cooking rack with a Non-Stick Cooking Spray.

Place Chicken Thighs On Camerons Stovetop Smoker - Yes it can handle over 3lbs of chicken thighs!

Using tongs the seasoned chicken thighs were placed on the cooking rack. This was just a touch over 3 pounds of chicken thighs so you can see it really can make a large meal for your family.

The picture says it all. After only 40 minutes in the Camerons stovetop smoker, they were smelling delicious. Check out the nice wisp of smoke coming off of the smoker as I open it up. Also check out the video below.

Put On Grill To Make Crispy

Now to make it extra special I went the extra mile this time and placed the smoked and cooked chicken thighs on my BBQ Grill. I put them on for only a few minutes to cover them with BBQ sauce and make them a little bit crispy. I am glad I did because the end result tasted like very expensive take out BBQ that would have easily cost me $20-$30.
