How To Make A Great Chicken Filet Sandwich

Updated on April 14, 2014

My Great Chicken Sandwich

I'm making this page about this recipe because it's a great sandwich. My husband calls it my "specialty." I'm not sure why, because if you have this recipe you can make a great chicken sandwich too.

The original recipe came from a newsletter I subscribe to. I was working in a restaurant at the time, and it looked and sounded a lot like a chicken sandwich that was served there. I thought, "Hey, it would be great if I could create this sandwich." I did, and everyone in my family enjoys it.

Makes Chicken Less Plain

I like this recipe because it turns a plain old chicken sandwich into something you might buy in a decent restaurant. There's some prep involved, but overall it's really easy to make.

Cook Time

Prep Time: About 75 minutes

Total Time: About 80 minutes

Serves: 3

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
  • pounded thin
  • 8 slices of bacon
  • 1 small onion
  • sliced
  • 4 slices of pumpernickel bread
  • toasted
  • 4 teaspoons of Steak Sauce
  • 4 oz.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  1. Cook bacon in large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon; drain on paper towels. Reserve 1 tablespoon drippings in skillet. Add onion; cook and stir 2 to 4 minutes or until tender. Remove onion from skillet. Add chicken to skillet; cook 6 to 8 minutes on each side or until browned and no longer pink. Place toasted bread slices on cookie sheet; spread each slice with 1 teaspoon steak sauce. Top with chicken, bacon slices, onion, and cheese. Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat for 1 to 2 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Serve with whatever sides you like.

Can You Dress Up A Chicken Filet?

I have to say yes. You can only dress up a chicken filet so much. If you're going to dress it up though, this is a great-tasting way to do it.

Is a chicken sandwich just a chicken sandwich?

Cookbooks On Amazon

Here's some pretty popular cookbooks you might want to pick up. I should maybe buy a few more.

My Final Words

I'm not much of a cook, so, for my husband to say that this sandwich is great, and for my son to want to eat it, makes me feel better about my cooking skills. If you choose to try this recipe, you won't ever look at a chicken sandwich ordered in a restaurant the same way.

steak sauce and chicken??? I'll have to try it. I make a similar sandwich on the charcoal grill but it involves a portabella mushroom rather than bacon...I bet both would be superb!

I always think it's nice to have a meal or recipe that your family loves you to cook. The added bacon makes a tasty difference.
