Chill & Grill On Labor Day

Updated on October 24, 2012

Labor Day - time for BBQ

Labor day is national holiday in my country ( as in 80 other countries ) and every year, on 1st May we organize friendly gathering around barbeque.

There are so many reasons for having a grill, so many customs, recipes and ways so I would like to share how my friends and I spend every 1st of May.

For start, there are few main ingredients that are crucial for successful BBQ event:

Instructions

  1. Set fire for BBQ! ( Be responsible and secure the area )
Cast your vote for 1. Fire

2. Are you chef of the day?

  1. Get ready for some grilling!

3.Start early!

  1. Start with meat menu.

4. Wise advice

  1. Stay in opposite direction of smoke, otherwise you'll smell like burger.

5. Act like a superstar

  1. Sing along with guitar player!

6.Get silly!

  1. Act like a child.

7. Dessert for the end

  1. Serve some sweets at the end.

Food on grill

Now that you read instructions for having successful grilling & chilling time, it is time to move on the most important thing: food. Even though, it is mainly meat on the menu that day, fish, eggplant and zucchini wait in line for grill, too.

Because there are always lots of people and young families with kids, we are trying to have diverse meals. Potato as side dish is great option and green salad is absolute must - especially on warm day as 1st May.

One easy peasy fish recipe:

My intention in this lens is to simply describe you one of my favorite days ( and not to talk about grilling philosophy ) but here is one "fast and furious" recipe - my favorite way to make a fish on any time of year:

1. fresh fish, cleaned

2. let it soak in olive oil and garlic

3. put it on the grill

4. when it's grilled just put some parsley and lemon juice on it.

Great grill...um books on Amazon: - get inspired!

Having fun around the grill

Great part of spending free day with my friends is that we can do stuff we usually don't have time to do: playing with ball or having fun with table games. We organize our bbq in our friends house backyard so we have plenty of space to run around and play with kids and dogs.

Badminton, volleyball or...well just chilling in the shade is what we usually do.

Choose your activity: - have a blast of fun!

Chilling after grilling.

Our Labor Day celebration starts at 11am and it's finished with last rays of sun.

After preparing grill, which is always lots of fun and it always leads to discussions in "what is the perfect way to do it" style, it is time to chill.

Gathering strength is essential because there is always "round two" in preparing meals. Wise man once said: "it is small circle of life - eating and sleeping"

This is the photo of my friend ( The wise guy ) obviously living by his own philosophy.

Photos I used for this lens are mine, so please ask if you choose it to use it.

Isn't this a great way to spend a day, or what?
