7 Amazing Chocolate Bundt Cakes ... You Can Make Yourself

Updated on September 17, 2014

Chocolate Bundt Cakes . . . WOW!

Chocolate bundt cakes . . . Mastering the art is something I've been wanting attain. That is, creating a moist, rich-tasting chocolate cake with an extra "Wow" factor.

So that meant I needed to discover a great recipe and a great bundt cake pan to complete my mission.

To my surprise . . . I found quite a few chocolate bundt cake inspirations . . . with several, I just had to share. What follows are simple but amazing chocolate bundt cake recipes along with the pans that can make them even more WOW-tastic!

Ready? Choose your favorites and "get-to-baking!"

[P.S. Be on the look-out for helpful bundt baking tips from Nordic Ware ,,, sprinkled throughout this page.]

Simple ... But WOW!

Bittersweet Chocolate Walnut Bundt Cake - With A (Secret) Ingredient

The above photo used under Creative Commons from: 3liz4, on Flickr

Chocolate walnut cake recipes abound, but this particular recipe has a secret ingredient . . . that enriches the flavor even more.

This moist chocolate cake, full of walnuts can be baked in the "Classic Bundt Pan" below:

Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Anniversary Bundt Pan
Nordic Ware Platinum Collection Anniversary Bundt Pan

This beloved, classic bundt cake pan is all too familiar . . . with vertical alternating narrow/pinched and wide/rounded fluting. Its heavy, cast-aluminum sturdiness promotes even baking and holds 12 cups of batter (enough to make a cake for 10 to 12 people).

Use the proper cooking spray.

Spray the Bundt® pan with a non-stick vegetable oil. A non-stick spray such as Bakers Joy* which contains flour. After spraying, take a pastry brush and brush the oil into the grooves of the pan and then turn the pan upside down on a paper towel, allowing excess oil to drain away. Avoid using spray with Lecithin listed as an ingredient as a gummy residue can build up over time.

Vegan Chocolate Orange Bundt Cake

Vegan and low fat, too . . . what could be healthier and still taste as delicious as this citrus-flecked gem? Head over to the Fat-Free Vegan to get the recipe for this "petite" Chocolate Orange Bundt Cake.

The photographer (and baker) of the above bundt cake created a simple but stunning presentation using the "Kaiser Domus Bundform" cake pan.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Kaiser Bakeware KaiserCast 6" Domus Bundform Pan
Kaiser Bakeware KaiserCast 6" Domus Bundform Pan

Create a European style Domus bundt cake with this Kaiser Bakeware KaiserCast Domus small Bundform Pan. This unique pan is made of cast aluminum for quick and even browning, and features a two-layer non-stick coating for easy release and quick cleanup. Diameter is 6-1/2-inches has a 3 cup capacity, perfect for those occasions when a smaller portion is desired. Rich in tradition and strong details this line is sure to be a classic in many families for years to come.

Whiskey-Soaked Dark Chocolate Bundt Cake

Whiskey . . . chocolate . . . espresso . . . This recipe by Melissa Clark (and published in the NY Times), is a strong contender among great dark chocolate bundt cakes. Here's the link to her recipe for Whiskey-Soaked Dark Chocolate Bundt Cake.

Using the beautifully fluted Fancy Ring Mold from Wilton, creates an attractive multi-panelled design that (ahem) "makes the cake."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Wilton Fancy Ring Mold Pan, 10 Inch

A lightweight, non-stick anodized aluminum construction; measures 10 by 3 inches; hand washing recommended. Get helpful tips from other users . . .

Deepest, Darkest Most Delicious Chocolate Cake

Photo used under Creative Commons from: lynn.gardner, on Flickr

Be a show-off and present this "swirl" of deep, dark chocolate goodness at your next tea, luncheon or dinner party. In the photo above, don't you just love the piped chocolate icing within each swirly crevice? A simple but distinctive finishing touch!

Want a really, really, really good recipe for deep, dark chocolate cake? Well, Maui Bonnie loves to share how she makes her very own "Deepest, Darkest Most Delicious Chocolate Cake" . . . claiming that it has been her "go-to" chocolate cake recipe for potlucks and parties for over 20 years.

Bonnie uses a combination of: brewed black coffee, bourbon (or whiskey), unsweetened chocolate, butter, sugar, flour, baking soda, salt, eggs and pure vanilla extract.

Try Maui Bonnie's recipe for the best, most delicious, deep dark chocolate cake ever!

And if you want to find out more about the Heritage Bundt Pan see below:

Nordicware Commercial Heritage Bundt Pan Heavy Duty Cast Aluminum. Teflon Non-stick Coating. 10 cup capacity
Nordicware Commercial Heritage Bundt Pan Heavy Duty Cast Aluminum. Teflon Non-stick Coating. 10 cup capacity

Constructed of durable cast aluminum that ensures sharp detail and uniform baking. Commercial quality, heavy cast aluminum provides superior baking performance Baked goods rise evenly, cook more uniformly, & have delicious, golden crusts due to excellent conduction of these heavy walled pans .

Avoid bubbles in the batter.

To prevent air bubbles in the cake, slowly pour the batter in one corner of the pan and allow the batter to slowly flow in and around the Bundt® design. Gently tap the filled cake pan on the counter a few times, this will make the air bubbles/pockets rise up and away from the outside of the cake.

Fancier ... Schmancier!

Mini Chocolate Bundt Cakes With Peanut Butter Filling

Photo used under Creative Commons from: randomcuriosity, on Flickr

Individual mini chocolate bundt cakes are perfect for just about any occasion . . . a special luncheon, an anniversary dinner or even a wedding.

Emeril's Chocolate Bundt Cake (with peanut butter filling) can be baked in this Mini Bundt Pan

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Wilton Excelle Elite 6-Cup Mini Fluted Pan
Wilton Excelle Elite 6-Cup Mini Fluted Pan

These mini-molds hold one cup, as needed for my recipe. The cakes baked evenly and came out easily - and the scallop detail was evident.

Double-Chocolate Bundt Cake with Ganache Glaze

Photo used under Creative Commons from: distopiandreamgirl, on Flickr

Have a really special occasion where chocolate reigns? The above image features a ganache-glazed chocolate "groom's cake" which is garnished with belgian bittersweet and milk chocolate fleur de lis.

A "royal" delight like this one, can be accomplished by using the recipe for Double-Chocolate Bundt Cake with Ganache Glaze and baked in the ornately fluted Fleur De Lis bundt pan.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Nordic Ware Fleur De Lis Bundt Pan
Nordic Ware Fleur De Lis Bundt Pan

This heavy-weight bundt pan turns out such an elegant cake . . . many folks will not believe it's homemade. Non-stick coating provides ease of release and super easy clean-up by hand. 10-cup capacity; just over 9 inches in diameter.

Showcase the details using a spatula.

Recipes may vary, so fill the pan about 3/4 full to avoid overflow. With a spatula, push the batter to the outside of the pan pushing slightly up the walls; this will help the cake climb up the sides, giving you greater detail on the outside of the cake.

Sour Cream Chocolate Bundt Cake

Photo used under Creative Commons from: distopiandreamgirl, on Flickr

What is there to say? This turreted-spiraled design is just WOW-tastic!

A rich-tasting Sour Cream Chocolate Cake recipe lovingly baked in a Festival Bundt Pan, then garnished with belgian chocolate leaves and chocolate-drizzled fresh strawberries . . . is perfect for _________ (well, you can fill in the blank).

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Nordic Ware Cast Aluminum Festival Party Bundt Pan
Nordic Ware Cast Aluminum Festival Party Bundt Pan

With vertical graduated flutings, this high-quality non-stick bundt pan is a welcomed change to the classic tube cake pan; holds 9 cups of batter; 9-3/4 inches in diameter by 4 inches high.
