Looking For A Great Chocolate Pudding Cake Recipe?

This page is dedicated to the dessert course so if you are watching what you eat, this is NOT where you want to be and I advise you to leave before you are tempted. However, if you are looking for a simple, easy and delicious dessert recipe, one that qualifies as comfort food and is a bit healthier than some recipes, then I encourage you to read on, print the recipe and bake yourself a fabulous and homemade chocolate pudding cake.

What Is A Pudding Cake?

A pudding cake is a dessert that falls between a pudding and a cake. (Bet you could have guessed that much!) They are often but not always made by simply stirring together a batter, putting it in a casserole dish and adding water. The cake manages to become a cake with sauce that will amaze and delight you.

Are Pudding Cakes Easy To Make?

Why yes, pudding cakes are usually very easy to make...almost as easy to make as they are to eat.

What Do You Need To Make A Pudding Cake?

Most pudding cakes are created from some pretty basic kitchen supplies including but not necessarily limited to a bowl or two, measuring cups, a pan and a spoon. Usually they require very basic ingredients that you likely already have in your kitchen. Some are a bit more complicated but all are worth the effort required to produce a tasty, homemade dessert.

The Best-Ever Chocolate Pudding Cake Recipe

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup unpacked brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup 1 percent milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup unpacked brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cups boiling water

  1. The first step is to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. The rest of this recipe is just about as easy as that.
  2. Combine the flours, brown sugar, first amount of cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Stir them well and set aside.
  3. In a measuring cup, combine milk and oil.
  4. Add liquid mix to flour mix and stir with a spoon until well blended. Pour this batter into an ungreased 8 inch square baking pan. (I cheat and use a similarly sized round casserole dish.) Spread the batter evenly.
  5. For the sauce, mix in a small bowl the brown sugar and the second amount of cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mix over the batter in the pan and then pour the boiling water on top.
  6. DON'T STIR. (Yes, that is DO NOT stir.)
  7. This is the magic of pudding cake. If you are serving children, make sure you share the process with them. Even my teens were suitably impressed.
  8. Bake the cake for 40 to 45 minutes or until dry on top. Let stand for five minutes before eating. Ice cream is a nice although not really necessary accompaniment.
