You are working on the renovation of a building for your new restaurant and you have finished the walls, now you are ready to begin working on the flooring. About the only thing you know for sure is that you want to keep your restaurant as unique and environmentally friendly as you can, while providing a comfortable and safe place for your employees to work.

When thinking of all of the flooring options available to you, it is also important to take into consideration the care and maintenance that will go into keeping the floor looking beautiful. After all, the last thing you want to have to do is stay late to clean the floors after a very long day on your feet.

Restaurant kitchen flooring has to be durable, resistant to grease, slipping and abrasions, and easy to maintain. One thing to remember, restaurant flooring has to be made of a higher-grade material than that, you would buy for your home, due to the higher volume of traffic on it everyday.

A type of flooring that is becoming more popular for high traffic areas these days is restaurant equipment terrazzo floor tile. Terrazzo tile, also known as, Venetian mosaic, is made of granite or marble stone chippings laid in a resin or concrete mixture to harden, and create a very durable floor.

Terrazzo tile is one of the more expensive tiles used in a kitchen due to the materials and it must be installed by a professional. One disadvantage is it this is a very hard floor and uncomfortable to stand on for many hours, and it does not absorb sounds.

Luckily, the advantages of Terrazzo flooring outweigh the disadvantages. In spite of the high cost, one of the reasons it has become so popular is because of its versatility and contemporary look. It looks just as good in a warehouse setting as it does in the kitchen of a restaurant even when lit with commercial kitchen lighting.

Other advantages include durability, which works well in high traffic areas, and it is easy to maintain, both important features for a restaurant kitchen. This flooring will need to be strip cleaned, and professionally polished, every so often, in order to maintain its beauty, when properly done, daily cleaning will consist of sweeping and mopping it with a mild cleaner.

Terrazzo tile is unique flooring that is versatile, and beautiful. If cared for and properly maintained it will keep its beauty for a very long time.
