The Best-Ever Creamy Scalloped Potatoes Recipe
My Creamy Scalloped Potatoes Recipe
The Best-Ever Creamy Scalloped Potatoes Recipe is Umm, Umm, Good! These potatoes are exactly what I think of when I think of comfort food and they are soooo delicious. My sister-in-law quite likes them and she, believe it or not, does not like scalloped potatoes! These ones are rich and it must be the presence of these extra special ingredients that makes them tasty and different to her.
I have been making these scalloped potatoes for years...since I discovered the recipe in a Parents Magazine in April of 1993. My family loves it as have all our guests to whom we have served it. My potato-loving son has always loved it. My other son, who does not love potatoes, always opted for the homemade country seed bread instead of the potatoes...until recently when he has discovered he has a taste for this delicious recipe, too.
The Best-Ever Scalloped Potatoes are a perfect accompaniment to your Easter Dinner, New Year's Dinner, Christmas Dinner or any special occasion meal. We always serve them with The Best-Ever Glazed Baked Ham. We do tend to reserve this recipe for special occasions because of its richness but there is no reason you could not prepare this recipe for creamy potatoes on a more regular basis!

What Potatoes Are Best For Scalloped Potatoes?
My Mother-in-Law always matched the correct type of potatoes the the method that she was preparing them. I have always used whatever I have on hand except, that is, for this recipe. For this recipe, I go out of my way to buy Yukon Gold potatoes. I think they are perfect for this recipe and no others will do!
Can You Make Scalloped Potatoes Ahead of Time?
I do not believe you should make this recipe ahead of time. However, on the day of your meal you could prepare the potatoes and soak them in a bowl of water and you could prepare the rest of the ingredients and store them in the fridge.

1 bay leaf
1 tsp salt

- Wash the potatoes and make sure they are somewhat dry.
- Slice potatoes into 1/4 inch slices and arrange them in your pan.

- Remove cover, give them a little stir and bake the potatoes for 45 minutes longer.
Do You Like Scalloped Potatoes?

Amazon customer Grace Doll is correct when she says that the $10 or so that this peeler costs is a small investment for something that is so useful. She even goes so far as to suggest that you will wonder why you waited so long to buy a GOOD potato peeler.
Oxo Good Grips Peeler
Top-rated vegetable peeler makes preparing potatoes easy.
This Amazon's bestselling vegetable peeler PLUS it has received more five-star reviews than any other vegetable peeler available on Amazon. In my opinion, that makes it a pretty darn good peeler. Featuring extra-hard stainless steel blade which will stay sharp but can even be replaced by an OXO Peeler Bade Replacement Cartridge.

One of my favorite foods, prepared one of my favorite ways, and yes, your recipe does look wonderful. These days I would have to make a vegetarian version. I wonder if that will change the flavor too much. No matter, I will pin it and give it a try next time I make scalloped spuds. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe.
I am a potato fan in general but scalloped is definitely one of my faves. I've never made it with whipping cream though so I'll have to give that a try.
These potatoes are exactly what I think of when I think of comfort food and they are so delicious.
Had some today for New Years! I also use Yukon Gold, but a added quite a bit of cheese to mine. My kids love cheesy potatoes. Yours look delicious, too, and I think I will try them the next time we have ham. Thanks!
Scalloped potatoes are just delicious, and everyone should have a recipe in hand because it goes with so much and potatoes are cheap. Pinned to my potatoes board.

Yummy! I am making these tonight :-)
YUMMMMYYYYY I haven't had scalloped potatoes for ages! Blessed!
Very simliar to the French pomme dauphinois which is thinly sliced potatoes layered and eac layer sprinked with finely pressed garlic and seasoned. Pour over cream, I use creme fraiche, sprinkle with nutmeg and cook in the oven until the potatoes are cooked and the top brown. Cheese is not usually added to a traditional dauphinois.
Love the recipe and a must try. YUMMIE!! Angel blessed.
This sounds great, thanks for the lens!
it's really testy...and very delicious...
Looks delicious! Good lens.

Sounds great, I like to add bacon to my scalloped potatoes.
This is the first time I've seen chicken broth in a scalloped potato recipe. Going to give that a try next time I roast a chicken and render some broth. Sounds fabulous, and we do love them here. Your suggestion to use Yukon golds is helpful too, because I find they cook tender much more quickly than some of the more utilitarian potatoes. Don't you?
I need to try these. looks really good
My dad's scalloped potatoes relied on an onion, salt, and pepper for flavour and he only used milk. I bet yours are a lot richer! I'm not that fond of potatoes, but I'm going to try making scalloped ones with Yukon golds if I can find them.
Yes, I am! I love recipe lenses, and you have so many great looking ones. I need to come back and read every one! This recipe looks like it would be delicious--can't wait to try it.
Love scalloped taters, but I don't eat them often because of the ol' watching the waistline thing. But I've actually been thinking I should make them because they're one of my man's favorite foods. I'll use your recipe, actually. Thanks!
