Lemons, one of the world's most common citrus fruits have been around for thousands of years but no one knows for sure where it originated from.

The Egyptians have been using it for thousands of years before us. But it is not until the 1st century, lemons were introduced to Europe and other parts of the world.

Surely, after being used for such a long time, it must have some benefit. Some of its most well known health benefits includ antibacterial and immune boosting properties. There are phytonutrients and flavonoids in lemon that help promote better immunity and help with digestion. One of the best ways to eat lemon is to have it as a juice.

Besides taken as a juice, you can enjoy lemon as

a) A marmalade or jam or spread

b) Make a variety of beverages including cocktails, lemonade and juices

c) Marinade for seafood especially fish and some meat recipes.

d) Pickles and a variety of sourish foods

e) Smoothies.

Lemon juice recipes is probably one of the most commonly used recipes to help with weight lost, and in particular some weight lost diets. I am sure you must have heard of the lemon detox diet

Lemon Juice Recipe #1 - The Spicy Sour Kick!

This lemon juice recipe is pretty different compared to your traditional lemonade recipe.

This is a mix of veges and lemon fruit in one which you will find pretty interesting. This juice is best taken before a heavy meal like a roast or steak or any other heavy meal.

Ingredients

4 stalks of celery

1 lemon

1" knob of ginger

1/2 large cucumber / 1 medium-sized cucumber.

Instructions: For this recipe, remove the lemon skin. Juice the lemon by hand or use a citrus juicer. Don't forget to remove your ginger skin as well. Next, juice all the other ingredients together without the lemon. Now, mix all the ingredients and serve! For best results, cut the cucumber to smaller pieces before juicing all the ingredients.

Lemon Juice Recipe #2 - Apple, Lemon and some Veges

This juice recipe is a little unconventional but is remarkably easy to drink.

Ingredients

1 red apple

1/2 lemon

1-2 celery stalk

1 cup of baby spinach leaves

InstructionsMake sure you remove the outer layer of the lemon. Now juice everything together and serve!

What I Think About This Recipe

Lemon juice is low in calories and high in fibre. Spinach has a boat load of iron, magnesium and micronutrients that help with healing. Celery has a good amount of electrolytes like sodium to replenish lost salts without causing an increase in blood pressure. Its juice also helps reduces inflammation. The apples is to add a more balanced taste to the whole juice recipe.

Lemon Juice Recipe #3 - The Lemonade

There are many variations to the lemonade recipe. But I think the one below is one of the best tasting recipes around.

Ingredients

5 lemons

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

3 -4 cups of water

Instructions The trick to this recipe is to dissolve the sugar properly. You will need to heat sugar and water together in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves completely. Once you are happy with it, juice 5 lemons. Now add the lemon juice together with the sugar syrup and refrigerate. Take out after 30- 455 minutes and serve. Lemonade tastes best when served chilled.

For added finesse, serve with a slice of lemon for each cup of lemonade!

Lemon Juice Recipe #4 - The Infamous Honey Lemon Mix

If you know Jamie Oliver, you might have heard of his version of the Honey Lemon Juice recipe.

Although I don't have the culinary skills of Jamie Oliver, I do have a lot of respect for his cooking. His honey lemon juice recipes is one of the best I've tried. Nope, it is not your typical honey lemon mix but has more ingredients added to it to make it a much more enjoyable drink. Jamie even uses it as a dressing on some of his dishes!

Ingredients

3 tablespoons of lemon juice

1-2 tablespoons of honey

Sea salt and ground pepper

5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

Instructions There is nothing special about making this juice. It is a straightforward add and mix. The beauty of this recipe is that it can be used as a dressing for your roast, your salad dish. You can add ginger to this recipe or substitute honey for ginger. Alternatively, you can add oranges to the mix but I would rather have it with the traditional honey and lemon.

      No special recipes -- I just add it whenever I can. Lemons add a freshness to a lot of dishes.

      I use lemon juice a lot in my cooking. I tend to get an irritation in the throat if i drink lemon juice so prefer it in cooking.

      We eat lemons raw at my house (well, limes too). We love sour (but have to be careful so we don't eat them so much and make our teeth sensitive, or form soars in our mouth from the acid.

      My favorite is lemon bars, but I always add extra lemon juice to them - I like mine very tart!
