5 Healthy Smoothies You Have to Try

Updated on September 5, 2014

A few months ago, I became so obsessed with Tropical Smoothie that going there became apart of my daily routine. But then I realized, why not save money and time by making my own smoothies at home? I went through a phase where I became obsessed with making smoothies. I spent hours looking at smoothie recipes on the internet one day, wrote down all of the ingredients I needed, and made all of them within three or four days. Unfortunately, most of them were pretty disappointing. They didn't taste very good, or were impossible to blend into a SMOOTHie. However, there were five of them that I absolutely loved. Not only are they tasty, but they're also healthy for you! It wouldn't be fair if I kept them a secret.

Unless otherwise specified, blend the ingredients listed for each smoothie together in a high powered blender.

Blueberry Almond Shake

This smoothie is a perfect post-workout drink. Not only do the blueberries provide your body with loads of antioxidants, but a large amount of protein in this smoothie is great to fuel your body.

1 cup almond milk
1 scoop protein powder
3/4 cup frozen blueberries

Cinnamon Bun Smoothie

This is my personal favorite on the list. If you're a sweet lover like myself, then this is the perfect smoothie for you. It seems that every time I go to the mall, I ALWAYS leave with a cinnamon roll from Cinnabon. This smoothie tastes very similar to those cinnamon rolls, but saves you 1,000 calories. Not only does it save the calories, but it also provides your body with potassium from the banana and a little protein from the almond milk.

1 frozen banana
1 cup almond milk
1/2 tsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Peanut Butter/Banana Shake

This is another smoothie that is great right after a workout. The banana in this shake provides it with a fruity flavor and a great amount of potassium. The peanut butter and almond milk give additional protein to the smoothie.

1 cup almond milk
1 banana
1 scoop protein powder
2 tbsp. peanut butter
3-5 ice-cubes

Green Smoothie

Of the smoothies on the list, this one is definitely the healthiest because it contains no sugar and has the highest fiber content. The list of health benefits provided by green smoothies goes on and on. This smoothie is also the easiest to make.

1 banana
1 cup chopped kale
1 cup almond milk

Strawberry Breakfast Smoothie

This one is also for my sweet lovers. There is a little bit of added sugar in this smoothie, but the amount of fruit, rolled oats, and almond milk outweighs the small amount of sugar we will be adding. You can always opt-out of adding the sugar, it just helps make the smoothie more sweet.

1 cup almond milk
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 banana
14 frozen strawberries
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

If you were able to try these smoothies, did you enjoy them?
